Unfortunately, I don't think that's very good news in terms of the Eredivisie standings in Europe and the UEFA coefficient. So I guess it's down to PSV in the UEFA Cup for the rest of the year. That sounds about accurate, unfortunately.

PSV draws Helsingborgs in the UEFA cup. The light bulbs shold get past them. Good news as far as I'm concerned. The deeper they go in the competition the less energy they'll have in the league.

Yeah that's what it looks like. AZ wanted Alves for 18M. Both deny any negotiations. Like I've said before, I don't see Alves going anywhere unless it's out of the Eredivisie. He's done all he wants (feels he needs) to in the Netherlands and he'll be off to Spain/Italy/England/Germany whenever Heerenveen get the offer or his contract is out. I think he's got the feeling that he's good enough for a move, evidenced by the hold-out at the beginning of the year with Heerenveen.
I'd love to see him at Ajax, but like I said, I think he'll move to another country before he moves to another Eredivisie team. That gives Alves what he wants, and Heerenveen money that they're banking on.

Also a followup on the Alves thing, or at least the latest I've seen. Heerenveen basically said they don't want him anymore and he won't play as he's causing too much unrest with the team by trying to force the transfer.
The latest I saw was that he was most likely to go to Middlesborough or Manchester City, but most likely Middlesborough.

An "upwards" move I suppose. Middlesbrough are of about the same standing in England that Heerenveen are in NL. He'll get a load of money but probably not a load of recognition there (and he won't get 7 in one game in the PL either)

Clubs await KNVB ruling on Alves January 15 2008
The Dutch Football Association will confirm on Wednesday whether AZ Alkmaar have signed striker Afonso Alves.
The Brazilian international agreed to terms with the Eredivisie club last month after Heerenveen granted him permission to discuss a deal.
AZ claim that the 26-year-old signed a contract with them which was due to commence on January 1, but the move failed to materialise as rival bids came in for Alves.
Other clubs linked with the South American include Manchester City and Fenerbahce, but Middlesbrough appear to be in pole position to clinch his signature.
Alves was indeed on Teesside over the weekend to discuss a possible move to The Riverside Stadium and this has further infuriated AZ, who have now taken legal action.
They are hoping the KNVB will rule in their favour - although AZ acknowledge that Heerenveen did not sign any of the transfer documents.
AZ released a statement which read: "There is a signed transfer agreement between AZ and SC Heerenveen about the transfer of Afonso Alves to AZ.
"Also there has been an agreement about the share, which Alves gets with a possible transfer according to his contract with Heerenveen, between all parties.
"There is a signed contract between AZ and Afonso Alves starting January 1, 2008 and there is a signed transfer document by AZ and Alves which is handled by the KNVB.
"However, Heerenveen refuses to sign this document. Because of this AZ has requested court action by KNVB to force Heerenveen to sign the documents."
Boro are awaiting the outcome of the court case before proceeding any further with the deal, although even if AZ win the case - reports suggest the Premier League outfit could then buy the player off them rather than Heerenveen, as Alves himself eyes a move away from Holland.
Sort of weird as Alves/AZ seem to have agreed, but Heerenveen did not. I'm not sure Alves still agrees with the latest interest from England. I have a feeling that the statement at the end is right, and it doesn't really matter who wins here as he will be on his way to England. I guess it's just a matter of the KNVB deciding who gets the transfersum.
I also have a feeling we're heading this way with Bruno Silva and Groningen over the next few weeks.

This one is an old one that has been doing the rounds for a number of years.
I think that the kid in the in the first picture is having a problem passing his stools whilst in the second one is asking the board why is it that Fword only win one championship every decade.

A couple of days old this but Gretar Steinsson has gone from AZ to Bolton for £3.5 million. Looks a good buy for Bolton to me - he always struck me as one of AZ's better players, all over the pitch, defending/scoring etc.
