That's almost funny the first time, but no more than that.
He has done his job at Ajax, we now have four better and younger strikers, we don't need him anymore.
He deserves more than to be the virtual hero of Ajax : playing time, in another team.

The very good players in that team ?
We don't have a lot of them. I think Trabelsi is top notch, so is Emmanuelson.
Maduro seems like huge potential.
Apart from that we have very good and solid players : Sneijder, Grygera.
The rest is, well....... from bad to OK. Maybe Huntelaar is a man for the future, but the rest of the players : De Jong will leave, Heitinga sucks, Pienaar has already left, Anastasiou and Boukhari who were at best decent will leave, Escudé has already left the building, Trabelsi will leave, Maxwell will leave, Juanfran will fail like all the Latinos of that team, Rosales never lived up to your expectations except for some rare moments, Lindenbergh and Galasek do the job but they're limited technically and offensively, our wingers like De Mul and Mitea are lightweights that have failed on a regular basis. Seriously these are really bad moments... I really wonder what will happen with that team.

Remeber the days we thought this team could really make it? We almost defeated Milan in the CL quarters. Man, I even bet 50€ with a friend that Ajax would win the CL in three years. But that was 3½ years ago, I would never enter such a bet now.

You would need some really good odds, like 20-1. I would take that bet at 20-1.

FWIW, Ladbrokes has Ajax at 66-1. That would be worth a fiver.

well that would probably change soon...

Martin van geel is saying that he will make ajax a top club again with more merchandising, a smaller squad so they can pay higher loans and so is more attractive to good players..

it wool soon change to 1/4 :bis:

The "virtual" hero scored the goals that led us to a CL spot at the end of 2004 / 2005. And he is our top scorer in the CL this season.
So calm down and vomit elsewhere (a disgusting habit BTW).
I don't give a fuck about "potential" if it never leads to performance.

Oh really ? So HE earned us a Champions League spot ? Completely stupid thinking (I wouldn't go as far as saying it's a disgusting habit but well :X)

If we went to Champions' League it was as much thanks all the other goals (and thus points) in the rest of the season as thanks to the (too) few goals he scored during the last games. A goal is a goal and a point is a point. I mean His Highness Yannis didn't have a +1 point bonus for each one of his goals last time I checked.

Now if you want to create a sort of God-like creature named Yannis Anastasiou and organize a cult around him FINE. But other people see the plain reality : a decent enough player that brings good mood in the locker room, but limited by his skills, his speed and his age.

Enough on that topic for me, I'd hate to look back at this season on these boards and see that I spent most of the time arguing about that dude.

Well Philippe, I do not doubt that you are an intelligent person judging from some of your comments, but you really appear to live in your own world sometimes. You develop a passion for some players that does not make sence, Yannis is one example of that. Do not try to make a hero out of Yannis, we do not buy that.

You also seem to hate some players no matter what they do. Rosenberg is a good example, he had a really bad start of the season, all of us can agree upon that, but you continue to show your hate in debate after debate while he scores goal after goal. If Roseberg would have played the whole season like he does now he would have been among the top scorers. Why do you refuse to see that?

It is Ok though, I do not think we should start to use harsh words, this is what this kind of forum is for, I just do not understand your way of thinking

A chairman with a plan. I'm intrigued. Merchandising. What a concept.

Although I hope the squad size won't be too small - you need some quality reserves to weather the long domestic and european season (assuming Ajax makes it to Europe next year).

One of the Ajax-related things that was said in football talkshow Café de Sport yesterday evening was that Excelsior, currently leaders in the First Division, would like to land Yannis Anastasiou. Coach Mario Been reportedly admitted that he would love to add the experienced striker to his squad a.s.a.p., so that he can help Excelsior in their race for direct promotion.

Yannis Anastasiou will leave Ajax on a free transfer at season's end. According to most sources Ajax are willing to let him go for free to a Dutch club (in January). Foreign clubs that want to land him before February 1st will have to pay a (small) fee.

January. That's very soon.
Maybe the idea is that we would sign him again next season in case we are relegated.

I doubt he will get a game for us again, after all he has not been on the bench since Xmas and doubt they will want him to play in the Jong team.

I also doubt that any other team are going to pay him what he is on at Ajax so he may decide to sit the season out.

We have more interesting news to talk about tonight, but there is also an update from the Yannis front: he doesn't want to go to Excelsior. So much for that story then.

That, but also Maxwell's departure, the upcoming signing of Perez, etc. etc. These things are a little bit bigger than the news that Yannis Anastasiou doesn't fancy Excelsior. Forgive me if that upset you.

;)
