van der Vaart to Chelsea?
Saw this today

I also wonder if ten Cate at Chelsea now will have any effect, although it seems minimal at best, in getting him to move there.

I'm not sure it's the best fit, and think he would probably do better in Spain. I figure he will probably go there in the end anyway, although it would be interesting to see the competition with Makelele and Lampard (plus Ballack if he's still there) for a position (assuming that's where he would be used).Rafael van der Vaart is £20m Chelsea target

Chelsea coach Avram Grant will look to bolster his squad with the £20 million signing of Hamburg playmaker Rafael van der Vaart.
The Israeli coach will make a move for the Dutch midfielder in the January transfer window in a bid to get the club's season back on track.
It is thought that the club's technical director, Frank Arnesen has held talks with 24-year-old Van der Vaart's agent, Soren Lerby.
Arnesen has close ties with Van der Vaart's former club Ajax, who he left to join Hamburg in a £3.5m deal in 2005. Henk Ten Cate, meanwhile, who is in the process of leaving the Dutch side to become assistant coach at Stamford Bridge, is also aware of the midfielder's strengths.
Van der Vaart is contracted to Hamburg until 2010, but is growing frustrated by the German club's attitude towards him after they said they would listen to offers for him only to turn down a £15m move from Spanish side Valencia in the summer.
That could open the door for Van der Vaart to join Chelsea. However, a move to Spain appears to be the 24-year-old's preferred destination.
He said: "Hamburg's chairman Bernd Hoffman asked me in May how the club could make me happy. I replied that I would like to move to Spain and would want them to listen to offers for me. He agreed to do that.
"But then a club comes along and suddenly I'm not for sale.
"I cost just five million euros and now Hamburg could get over 20 million euros for me, yet nobody at the club is willing to talk about it."
Chelsea are not the only club linked with a move for the Dutch international with German giants Bayern Munich also keeping tabs on the player.
"Bayern are interested in me, but I would never join another club in Germany," he said.
I also wonder if ten Cate at Chelsea now will have any effect, although it seems minimal at best, in getting him to move there.

I know that the Bundesliga is a higher standard than the Eredivisie but that is ridiculous. I hope that we have a good sell on clause in his Hamburg contract......

Be it whether he joined Le Mans or otherwise, I'd say it's a waste of time to pursue him. Ogararu and Heitinga can operate at right back and that's not the most pressing problem. Considering his advanced age, I don't think he'll be around the Arena for long. He won't provide a solution to the problems we're having anyways.SPL schreef:Has Trabelsi signed for anyone.? Was talk of him going to Le Mans but I am sure he did not go there.

Yannis and Pipo (Wamberto) at Omniworld... Two immensely popular former Ajax players, because they were always positive and loyal. They were not the best players we had, but they scored a few tremendously important goals and simply loved it at Ajax...SPL schreef:Wamberto has joined Omniworld. Having played in Belgium last season he can keep a closer eye on the development of his son Danilo Sousa Campos
Man, we really have to go to an Omniworld home game some time soon!

At 30, I don't see the point of getting him back when we have Ogararu there who if anything has been one of the more impressive members of the squad we have now.bryan schreef:You make him sound like a pensioner!Considering his advanced age, I don't think he'll be around the Arena for long.

Re: van der Vaart to Chelsea?
I think the other clubs could get him for +/- 15 mln. Chelsea (and, for example, Real Madrid) always have to pay much more for the transfers.SE6Ajacied schreef:

Neeskens favourite for Roos job - AAP
Dutchman Johan Neeskens has been installed favourite to become the next Socceroos coach by a leading bookmaking firm.
http://www.theworldgame.com.au/home/ind ... cid=100420
Not sure about this one either actually, but he did have a good relationship with the players when he was assistant coach during and just after the WC.
We could do worse. I am glad Advocaat feel through. He has made a lot of enemies here and abroad by cancelling his deal with the socceroos. Reportedly he hasn't spoken to anyone in the FFA about this.
The guy (advocaat) is a complete f*^k wit IMO.
