Tough match, KJH should score that diving header. But all in all a boring match without opportunities. I'm glad they won my disgusting neighbours (Im from Slovenia and we have issues with croats and the with us).
2nd leg- i hope we win smoothly. I just don't understand why didn't Suarez start?
In 15 min time he played he was more dangerous than the whole team before.

Good result, gives confidence ahead of a tough league fixture and for the return leg.
I'd say it was a bit of a chess game .... both sides intent on giving nothing away.
Main highlights: some nice saves from Stekelenburg, some lovely football from Modric ... AND A HUGE MISTAKE from the Dinamo defence for the 0:1

This is the best European away win we booked in many years. Since the 2002-2003 campaign (with a fantastic away win at Olympique Lyon) the we booked three away wins that didn't mean anything (IK Start, Zulte W. and FC Thun) and one one that seemed pretty decent (FC København), but we all know how that ended.
I saw Dinamo Zagreb play against Werder Bremen and they were pretty bloody great. They're a Champions League-worthy side and we beat them at their home stadium, filled with 40,000 nutters.
We played catenaccio, but who the fuck cares? We needed this won and we pulled it off. Very well done. Who knows we'll advance from this round, which everybody though we wouldn't survive.
I love this.

Maybe I'm a negative bar steward Ko but.........
A shower of shite tonight from Ajax.
It wasn't defensive skill....they couldn't pass and created next to nothing.
Lucky they made a mistake (...ok Huntelaar did well).
Lucky Stecks had an outstanding game.
Lucky we're not in the Champions League where we would have suffered 6 seperate humiliations by any of the teams I've seen on Tue. or Wed. night.
Sorry to be negative but be honest guys ('n gals), we have fallen very low.
PS if you want to see how to play football watch Herenveen tonight... delightful.....

First: I don't think it was that bad. I may have been a tactical plan that you didn't like, but I did think they executed it fairly well. They didn't give much away and had a lot of possession (more than 50%).Manneken Pis schreef:Maybe I'm a negative bar steward Ko but.........

Also: Dinamo Zagreb are a team of superior quality (they're European 'B category'; we are C or D category). We are the underdogs (fact, because it's been ages since we eliminated a side of this caliber). You are right: it is absolutely unbelievable how deep we have fallen and how poor we are.
That's precisely why I think this was a splendid result. We might actually advance to the next round. Who knows.

I actually give up on most Ajax supporters now - jesus christ we won 1-0 away from home in Europe and they are still not happy.
What do you want - to play like a team of world beaters every bloody game - get real for gods sake.
Yes, overall this is a poor Ajax squad of players but give them some credit for goodness sake. They went away to a reasonably hard European away game - kept a clean sheet and won 1-0. A lot better Ajax squads in terms of players have travelled to apparently easier away games and came away with a lot worse results.
It is times likes this when it is rough and things are going shit that we should get behind the team not put the boot in at every opportunity.

I get the the reverse psychology (be humble and respect the opponent)... I just don't think we executed well... we didn't pass well, no movement, no tempo, didn't create much, fragile defence relied on Stecks a lot....
I guess we'll have to agree to differ.
You're right on the rest though... we might well get through to the next round which is good news (if we don't play every game like this).
I've spent most of the last two days driving maybe I'm just tired and that's making me grumpy....

Think I'll go to bed....

Guys Zagreb is near to me and i know how Dinamo plays in home league and in europe. They were much better than Werder in that two games, only judge and luck didn't let them win.
Their team management psihology is only dedicated to one thing- europe competition. They train and think the whole year just how to make it in Europe.
Their Modrič will be one of the stars in Europe (why we didn't buy him
)...all in all we have beaten a great team on AWAY ground, let's just make it to the groups and we could enjoy some great matches too...
There IS life beyond CL....

Since our excellent 2002-2003 campaign there have been only two opponents that we beat comfortably home and away: IK Start and FC Thun (and it must be said that both of these teams humbled us for at least 45 minutes at their own ground).
Then there's two teams we beat comfortably in a single game: Austria Vienna and Zulte Waregem.
Against literally everybody else we had one hell of a hard time, looked like crap and (on many occasions) crashed out.
This has been the situation for five years in a row now. That's the truth. Plain facts. Expect nothing; hope for the best. Whoever the opponents are. That should be our attitude. It has many advantages:
1. it makes it easier to appreciate a win
2. it takes a lot of unreasonable pressure off the players
It's simple. I thought this is a great result - and we shouldn't exaggerate the number of chances Dinamo Zagreb had. Two very good ones in the first half. In the second half? Nah, not many.

When FIFA or UEFA adopt a style points rule , I'll worry about whether Ajax painted a footballing masterpiece or not. Just win baby. I'll gladly take another fair performance if it leads to UEFA Cup qualification . Ajax must recoup at least a fraction of the monies lost when they flopped in the CL .

Yes I'm happy with 0-1 away in Europe, didn't say the opposite, just think playing in the Camps League this year would have been a debacle.
I realise it's not reasonable to expect them to play like world beaters "every bloody game" but more than 2 out of 7 so far this season doesn't seem unreasonable.
I don't tend to come on here to rant, spread negativity and "put the boot in", and I realise our expectations need to be adjusted but we were very poor (my perception of the match I've just seen)..... sorry......
