A1 in the cup

Bericht door Kowalczyk » ma feb 07, 2005 8:33 am

A quick thingy about Ajax A1, the youth team for 16/17 year-olds coached by Danny Blind: they made it to the semi-finals of the cup in their age category by stuffing Utrecht A1 by the score of 1-6.

:headbang:

Scorers for Danny Blind's boys: new Danish striker Per Weihrauch, Tom Kalkhuis (2x), Jan Vertonghen, Sergio Zijler and Javier Martina.

The other semi-finalists are the A1 teams of Feyenoord, Vitesse and NAC Breda. The draw for the semi finals will take place in March.

Feyenoord A1 - Ajax A1: 0-1

Bericht door Kowalczyk » za feb 12, 2005 5:21 pm

Danny Blind's Ajax A1 have extended their lead in the National A-Youth Eredivisie by winning the road game at their most important rival and competitor for the championship: Feyenoord 0, Ajax 1. The only goal of the game was scored halfway the second half by Jan Vertonghen and according to a brief report on Ajax Netwerk Ajax's win was deserved.

Ajax are now five points clear of Feyenoord and the #3, AZ, can join Feyenoord at the second slot this weekend by winning their away game at Heerenveen.

Very good. The first team can't get their act together, but Young Ajax and Ajax A1 are doing very well.

An unexpected, unnecessary and highly clumsy stumble for Danny Blind's Ajax A1 today... They lost 1-0 at lowly Excelsior A1 in Rotterdam (a.k.a. F-Word Lite). Ajax were very poor and hardly created any scoring chances. Excelsior were far more dangerous and deserved the win.

Feyenerd A1 did win their game (4-1 against Willem II) and are now only two points behind Ajax A1, who are still tops in the National A-Youth Eredivisie.

Gestion Copa Amsterdam

Bericht door Kowalczyk » vr mar 11, 2005 8:21 pm

There will be a very prestigious tournament for youth teams of 17-18 y.o. in Amsterdam on 14, 15 and 16 May, named the Gestion Copa Amsterdam. It will take place for the first time this year and the plan is to make it an annual tournament.

The participating teams are Ajax A1, a team of A-youth players selected by Bobby Haarms playing under the name of AT5 United and youth teams of Anderlecht, Barcelona, Cruzeiro, Glasgow Rangers, Panathinaikos and Sparta Prague.

Nice one. Will be an interesting little tourney!

There is a website, but it's in Dutch only (so far anyway):

Hurrah! Who cares about the first team having a nightmare...?

The first Ajax championship of the year is now official. The mighty Ajax E1 (8 year-olds) won their away game at TOB on Saturday. They won all of their games, by the way and clinched the title in their league as early as on 02 April.

Here's a picture of the champions, coached by Patrick Ladru and Henk van Teunenbroek:

All's well that ends well, as they say. The season has been saved. :bis: :cheer:

Gestion Copa Amsterdam

Bericht door Kowalczyk » di apr 05, 2005 5:48 am

For the first time this year: the prestigious Gestion Copa Amsterdam tournament for youth teams in the age category of Ajax A1. The tournament is, more or less, a continuation of the former Pinkstertoernooi ('Whit Weekend Tournament' or 'Pentecost Tournament') at the home ground of amateur club Blauw-Wit Amsterdam (Sportpark Sloten in Amsterdam-West). The tournament will be played on 14, 15 and 16 May of this year.

The draw for the tournament took place at the Amsterdam Marriott Hotel yesterday. John van den Brom, interim coach of Ajax A1, picked the balls out of the bowl and put the following two groups together:

Group A
Ajax
FC Barcelona
Rangers FC
RSC Anderlecht

Group B
AT5 United (coached by Ajax greats Bobby Haarms and Piet Schrijvers)
Cruzeiro
Panathinaikos
Sparta Prague

The teams will play 50-minute games against each other (2 x 25 plus a 5-minute break). Here is the complete matches schedule:
http://www.gestion-copa-amsterdam.nl/page.php?id=110

Very prestigious tournament! Group A is the toughest one, but also the by far most attractive one!

And there they are: the second Ajax champions of the season!

The very youngest Ajax team has won their league: the Ajax F1 (6 and 7 year-olds). The team of coach Dennis de Haan grabbed the decisive three points by beating Swift by the score of 12-2.

Klaas Nuninga, board member of technical affairs, was there after the game to present the boys with flowers:

Good news and bad news.

The good news: the Ajax D3 are champions.

The bad news: Ajax A1, who have been way ahead of their copetitors throughout the season, are slowly but surely f#cking it up. After having suffered a totally unnecessary defeat against Twente/Heracles A1 on Wednesday, they dropped two more points in Eindhoven today, at PSV A1. It was, once again, completely unnecessary. Ajax took the lead, had countless chances to decide the game, but then conceded an equalizer because the ref did not notice a clear handball by a PSV striker.

The top of the table now looks like this:

1. Ajax: 24-52
2. Feyenoord: 22-47
3. AZ: 24-44

In other words: five points ahead, but Feyenoord have two games in hand, so that Ajax are 'virtually' one point behind Feyenoord now, with the finish line in sight. Would be enormously clumsy and completely unnecessary to give the shield away like that.

But, as everyone at Ajax will tell you: the most important thing for an Ajax youth team is not to win trophies, but to learn things. The players must improve as individuals, that is what it's all about. Well - I hope they learned a thing or two from this.

Man, those guys were a lightyear ahead...

This is little article published on lequipe.fr summarizing new measures that UEFA intends to propose (impose ???)

At the executive committee meeting, UEFA is going to make an announcement on measures that will "favour local youth formation in clubs"

According to Lars-Christer Olsson, UEFA's general director, modern football doesn't "fundamentally" encourage the development of new talent. Clubs try quick solutions and often favour buying players over developing them themselves.

«Dans ce type d'environnement, le football risque de devenir plus une compétition financière que sportive», continue-t-il, insistant: «Le football n'est pas seulement une course à l'achat des meilleurs joueurs».

"In that kind of environment, football takes the risk to become a financial competition rather than a sports one" he adds, insisting : "Football is not about a race for the best players"

That is why UEFA, taking the European laws as an important parameter, created a new rule "introducing an obligation of local youth formation" for UEFA competitions, i.e. mainly Champions League and UEFA Cup

An obligation that will apply progressively to allow clubs an easy adaptation to the new rules - that UEFA would like to see applied in the 52 national federations in their domestic competitions.

Here are the the main new rules as proposed by UEFA :

.un joueur «formé par le club» est un joueur inscrit auprès du club pendant trois saisons entre l'âge de 15 ans et celui de 21 ans.

.a player "formed by the club" is a player that has gotten a licence at the club for three years between age 15 and 21.

.a player "formed by the association" is either a player formed by the club as explained above or a player formed by a club affiliated to the same nationale association for three seasons between age 15 and 21.

.The teams' squad, limited to 25 players, has to get a minimum of players "formed locally". They can be either formed by the club or by the association, but at least 50% of those players have to have been formed by the club.

.that obligation to get a minimum number of players "formed locally" will be introduced progressively : 4 for season 2006/2007; 6 for 2007/2008 and finally 8 for 2008/2009.

.if a club doesn't have the required number of players formed "locally" in the team, the squad's total number of players will "shrink" accordingly.

.there is neither any restriction funded on the players' nationality, nor on the game sheet (#don't know if it's the real name.... This is the sheet where the coaches give the names of the players and subs before the game)#) or the starting team.

Now THAT is getting interesting for us (and more generally for French and Dutch clubs).

I'm dying to read you guys' reactions, because this is hot news but this brings questions on HOW IN HELL ARE THEY GONNA IMPOSE THAT to the likes of Chelski, Milan, Juventus, Real, Arsenal and #insert random so-called-big-clubs-that-in-fact-suck-ass-huge-time's name here

As usual I put the source along so that anybody can correct me if I translated something badly.

Well, it is interesting. I can't wait to see how clubs find and exploit the inevitable loopholes that such regulations will generate. And I wonder if such a system will survive a challenge, a la Bosman. It seems that UEFA is imposing similar kind of limitations on clubs as it did pre-Bosman, only without taking into account a player's nationality. One could argue that these regulations are no less contrived than the pre-Bosman regulations, and therefore just as likely to run afoul of EU laws. But I don't know EU law well enough (who does?) to judge. But I do think it is possible.
"In that kind of environment, football takes the risk to become a financial competition rather than a sports one" he adds, insisting : "Football is not about a race for the best players"

A1 in cup final!

Bericht door Kowalczyk » do mei 05, 2005 9:40 am

From Ajax.nl:
Ajax A1 advance to cup final

Ajax A1 qualified for the cup final on Tuesday evening after a nerve-wracking confrontation with Vitesse A1. The score after regulation was 2-2, after which Ajax beat the Arnhem side on penalties. Danish striker Per Weinrauch returned to action after a long period of injury trouble, but he was unfortunate once again: he even lost consciousness for a few minutes after an unlucky stumble and had to be replaced.

Ajax A1 had a good first half in Arnhem, but - just like opponents Vitesse - hardly created any scoring chances. They finally had one four minutes before the half-time whistle, as Jan Vertonghen 'stole' the ball from the feet of an opponent and pulled the ball back to Johan Plat who slotted home for the opening goal: 0-1. In the 42nd minute Per Weinrauch (who played well in his comeback game) had a good cross from the right flank, but it was an inch too high for Johan Plat to nod it home.

Ajax were no longer superior in the second half. Vitesse brought two substitutes and their play improved. Ajax had a few more chances (Vertonghen, Javier Martina), but goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer had some work to do as well. He remained upright until the 75th minute, but then conceded two goals in a couple of minutes' time: 2-1. Ajax fought back, but Per Weinrauch landed so unluckily when he headed a Travis Reuser free-kick that he went 'out' for a few minutes. Luckily he could walk off the pitch by himself. He was replaced with Ruud Jong. One minute after the latter's arrival Rydell Poepon fumbled the equalizer into the netting: 2-2.

2-2 was the final score, so that penalties had to bring a decision. Captain Robert Schilder fired home, Vitesse equalized, Ruud Jong made it 2-1, after which Kenneth Vermeer stopped Vitesse's second attempt. Jan Vertonghen made it 3-1, Vitesse scored to make it 3-2, Johan Plat restored the two-goal margin after which Vitesse's next player fired over the cross-bar. Ajax are in the final of the cup competition for A juniors.

Per Weinrauch's injury was not as bad as it seemed. After a quick check at the hospital he could go home. Ajax A1 will play the cup final on June 4th in the town of Klazienaveen. The second semi-final, between Feyenoord A1 and NAC Breda A1, will be played next week.

The championship and the cup...?

All of a sudden everything's possible again for Ajax A1. The team, temporarily coached by Young Ajax boss John van den Brom, were the league leaders in the National A-Youth Eredivisie throughout the season, then dropped so many points that Feyenoord A1 leapfrogged them. This weekend, however, Feyenoord surprisingly lost their away game at Twente/Heracles A1 (2-1), whereas Ajax won their tough road game at Utrecht A1 (2-3, goals by Rydell Poepon, Jan Vertonghen and Tom Kalkhuis).

With only one league game left to play Ajax have overtaken Feyenoord again: 55 points out of 25 games (Feyenoord have 53 points out of 25). The last league game will be a home game against Vitesse A1, to be played in late May (exact date t.b.c.).

Day 1 of the Gestion Copa Amsterdam tourney is now over. Ajax are represented by the Ajax A1 team, including some youngsters who no longer actually play for Ajax A1 but are still young enough for it, such as Tom De Mul and Stanley Aborah.

They played one game today (of 50 minutes) and gave FC Barcelona a good stuffing: 3-0, thanks to goals by Stanley Aborah (23'), Murat Yildirim (36') and Tom de Mul (50+2'). According to a report on AT5 Text Ajax were way better than Barça - and Tom De Mul was the undisputed Man Of The Match.

Tomorrow Ajax play two games: against Anderlecht at 13:00 CET and Glasgow Rangers at 17:00 CET.
