Heb je dat boekje van Hugo Borst over LVG gelezen? Dat is me van een treurnis... Eerst behoorde hij tot de inner circle van LVG: hij mocht met de Held en zijn Truus het diner gebruiken, enz. Tot ze ruzie kregen, toen mocht het niet meer. Vervolgens jammert hij het halve boekje bij elkaar over zijn verdriet: het is zo erg maar het is niet zijn schuld, het is de schuld van Louis, enz. De andere helft van het boekje besteedt hij aan een amateuristische poging de psyche van LVG te begrijpen. En bij wijze van wraak komt hij nog met onthullingen, zoals de onthulling dat LVG een slechte dronk heeft en Truus in het bijzijn van anderen kleineert. Alsof we dat niet gedacht hadden.
Het boekje geeft onbedoeld een inkijkje in hoe de sportjournalistiek werkt: prijs een trainer of een speler de hemel in en je mag erbij horen. Maar ook dat is geen verrassing.

Waarschijnlijk dat het een 'character' is die schijt heeft aan wat iedereen wel niet van hem vindt en geen plichtmatig verhaaltje afsteekt om de avond nog saaier te maken. Het idee voor dit seizoen dat Van Gaal het moeilijk zou krijgen met de pers daar berustte op de misvatting dat die net zo bekrompen en achterbaks zou zijn als in Nederland, maar dat is helemaal niet mogelijk. Ze kunnen een behoorlijke bak stront uitstorten, maar niet iedereen hoeft daar braaf ja en amen te zeggen tegen de hoge heren van de pers, om bij afwijking daarvan de pers te zien schuilen tot een zwak moment en dan met een leugenachtige haatcampagne te komen. Dat vinden wij in Nederland normaal, maar dat soort kleingeestige rancune zie je daar niet.
