One more week of training, then a short trip to Spain for this friendly against Real Murcia (kick-off 21:30) and then, to round things off, one last week of training.

After that it's for real. On Saturday August 30 Ajax will have to be ready for the league.

Latest score is 2:1 Murcia. Ajax is very sloppy with its passing .... lost a goal on the counter as a result.

Only Aissati was missing. It was a terrible performance, well below par.

Vermaelen and vertonghen will be in our strongest eleven. It looks like they will miss the first league game though.

Why ?
The final of the Olympic Games is next saturday, so they will have almost a week (4 full days at least) to train with Ajax before Willem II.

Murcia Friendly Upsets Van Basten

Ajax manager Marco Van Basten has spoken of his disappointment after watching the Dutch giants lose 2-1 to Spanish second division side Real Murcia in a firendly.
The Amsterdam side dominated the game during yesterday’s friendly, but were unable to create any real chances. To make matters worse, Ajax looked vulnerable in defence, especially down the flanks.

Luis Suarez scored after a deflected free kick and Dario Cvitanich missed the only other serious opportunity for Ajax. Ranko Despotovic and Diabang were the goalscorers for the Spanish side.

“This was a terrible performance,” stated Van Basten on the official Ajax website, “Everybody was below average and I’m pretty sure nobody left the pitch with a satisfied feeling. They weren’t focused and that worries me since we approached this game very serious.”

Striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar was also frustrated with his team’s performance. He said: “This was a bad day for everybody, but at least the team performance should be better. This is something to worry about.”

Well im sorry to say this but thing dont look to good after our terrible pre-season....if we cant beat teams like Murcia or Cardiff (with all due respect to both teams) then we are in a lot of trouble.....we might go through some growing pains this season.....

If anyone is expecting us to 'win everything' this season, then this might be the reality check they need.

Sure its only a friendly and all...but the team has changed a lot. Actually the club is changing a lot. Its a new dawn, it can't be built overnight.

Terrible is a little bit 'over-exaggerated' I would say. For me, the only worrying thing is this Murcia game.

Yes, I agree with Cedric.

The pre-season campaign has been fine, over all. Cardiff? That was the first match against professional opposition, after only a good week of training. A 0-1 win at a Premiership team is a good result by any means. Arsenal? I thought Ajax looked quite good. Arsenal fielded their strongest team. Ajax kept up with them for an hour and took a 2-0 lead. Inter? No chance, but we didn't look terrible or anything. That's not the type of opponent we should beat.

Good work has been done, but defeat at Murcia is a poor result... that's a sure thing. We need that extra defender.

Cruijff's first year in Ajax 1, the Beatles number 1 in the US, and seven years down the road our first European Cup 1.

*dream*

I blame it on disco and rap.
