Not sure if this thread is in the right place but some info for any Ajax fans looking to travel over for the game and weeekend in Cardiff.

The ground is about 10 minutes from Central Cardiff and there's plenty of places for a pint around the ground before the game and after. You can get the train from Central Station to Ninian Park which is only one stop and just round the corner from the ground.

Regarding hotels, your best bet is maybe trying "The big sleep hotel" http://www.thebigsleephotel.com/ which is just off the main street where all the pubs and clubs are.

Travelodge- St Mary's Street. http://www.travelodge.co.uk This hotel is directly next to all the clubs and pubs.

Also you have B&B's just out of the main street in Cathedral Road which is about the same walking distance to the ground really. Nice area next to the new cricket ground.

Pub times etc. Not sure the exact figure of pubs around the main street but your looking at 60+ and most staying open on a weekend until 2am maybe later. Most of the clubs stay open until 3/4am.

Food wise- There's plenty of places around the city centre for food from fastfood places, lots of different european culture resaturants, Chinese and indian resaurants.

Tour of the Millenium Stadium- As Holland have never played there with it being a newish stadium and there won't be any champions league or uefa cup finals there due to media area problems, it maybe worth while fans taking a trip around the ground. It's a great stadium but obviously it's alot better with a full crowd and loud atmosphere. Tours are £6.50 for Adults. More info here http://www.millenniumstadium.com/tours

If you require anymore info then let me know and hopefully I can help you out on this.

Cheers for the info, mate.

As far as I know this fixture has not been confirmed yet. Not by Ajax, anyway. But we'll leave this thread up, 'cos it seems like this match will be played.

Our clubs website confirmed it on Friday. The story is here http://www.cardiffcityfc.premiumtv.co.u ... 56,00.html

Also it's our last season at our ground before we move to the new one being built behind it so it will be a good start to a send off for the ground.

Also I forgot to mention about gigs in Cardiff. Over the weekend there's quite a few gigs happening in a few different venues in the main street and just a bit further out.

Venues such as Dempsey's Irish Bar, Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff Barfly, Cardiff Students Union

It's been a long time since I was there, but I seem to remember a surfeit of very good looking women in Cardiff.

Shame you can't make it.

There's 1600 of us off to portugal next week for the Cardiff pre season tour. They're playing in the algarve cup against boro, celtic and victo guimares.

Should be a good week out there!

True, I associated Wales with obese redhaired women, until I met a dark-haired Welsh beauty on holiday years ago. A subsequent visit to Cardiff taught me that red and obese were a small minority and that they were well outnumbered by the raven-haired and fit!

Also liked Cardiff as a town, good place to go to for a boozy weekend and a bit of footie! Just read that the ground's called Ninian Park, I thought they played at Cardiff Arms Park...

I would love, love, love to go and (under normal circumstances) definitely would have, but I'm moving into my new house on August 24 and I've been on a 'double mortgage' for three months now... so I have to be 'wise' for a change. I'm up for a UEFA Cup trip in, say, November. But Cardiff and Sunderland, as early as in August? I just have to keep myself under control... Sadly enough.

I don't have a mortgage or anything yet but I'm going on our pre season tour to portugal and doing all 46 league games and the cup games we have! Expensive but worth it

Cardiff Arms Park is the rugby lot who we don't seem to get on with to be honest.

We're having a new ground for next season just opposite us in our car park and the cardiff rugby team are actually going to be our tennants so they're renting the stadium off us for a tidy sum for the next 20 years!

Hopefully try and make it to Ninian Park htis season before it gets knocked down.

Lots of memories good and bad for us at the ground but it's one of the only original grounds with terracing in the english football league. I will miss the days of terracing in football grounds.

I think when FC Twente came over last year they enjoyed themselves. They brought about 800 over

Respect for that, mate... I've followed Ajax as closely as that for many, many years: all 34 league matches, cup games (home or away), a handful of pre-season friendlies (including one or two abroad, in the U.K. or Germany, mostly), at least 50% of European away fixtures and (if possible) the reserves' home games on Monday evening. Fifty Ajax matches or more in a season, in many cases.

Last season was the first season in which I decided to shift to a lower gear: I saw all home games in all competitions, but visited only five or six away games in the league and didn't do a European away match at all (mainly because there were only two: a Champions League qualifier in Prague and a first round UEFA Cup match in Zagreb... that was it). I was planning to go to at least one UEFA Cup away game in the group stage, but we didn't even reach that far.

Haha the gippo's! All they do is sell pegs!

I can't wait for our derby games with them this season! I can see them struggling in our league with the players they bought!

I'll bet the Swansea City - Cardiff city derby would be a fun one to watch... from a safe distance.

It's on sky. We haven't played them in the league for a few years so it will be interesting. Our real rivals are Bristol City just over the bridge from us!

Rommedahl lauds Ajax style

Dennis Rommedahl believes Ajax’s style of football will stand them in good stead on their pre-season tour of England.

The Denmark winger, who spent three years in England with Charlton before moving to Amsterdam last summer, will line up for the Eredivisie side against Cardiff on Friday and Sunderland on Sunday.

The 30-year-old is confident his team’s technical superiority will prove decisive.

He told www.ajax.nl: “I find that Ajax’s style of football, which is more focused on passing than playing long balls, is something that British teams struggle to cope with.

“They are used to more physical, kick-and-rush football. So I hope that our style is too much for them (Cardiff and Sunderland).”

Rommedahl never faced 2008 FA Cup finalists Cardiff during his time in England, but did play in a Charlton team which beat Sunderland 3-1.

The winger reckons Roy Keane’s side will aim to use their physicality to their advantage.

He added: “In footballing terms, we are the better side – we have more quality than them. However, they are a much more physical team than we are.”
