This is the first pre-season fixture of the 2008-2009 campaign and (as of yesterday evening) Ajax's next fix of footie. Kick-off town is 15:00 CET, in the coastal town of Noordwijk (which is the place where Oranje normally have their training camps).

The first training session under new coaches Marco van Basten, John van 't Schip and Rob Witschge is scheduled for Monday 14 July, 10:30 AM CET.

But first: roll on Euro 2008.

VV Noordwijk, by the way, are in the Hoofdklasse of Dutch amateur football. The name of their home ground is Duinwetering and it's pretty cool, right in the dunes by the North Sea coast.

The club are celebrating their 75th anniversary this year (1933-2008).

Kick-off time is 15:00 CET. Website: http://www.vvnoordwijk.com/

MvB's first match in charge was a winning effort, 2:5. According to Ajax Netwerk, the scoring went : Sarpong 14' 0:1; Ketting 15' 1:1; Leonardo 19' 1:2; Ketting 40' 2:2; Luque 2:3; Jan vd Heijden 89' 2:4; Suarez 90' 2:5.

I saw a post somewhere which indicated Ketting was an Ajax youth product at one time. If so, the match must've been a big moment for him.

According to Ajax Talk Dutch thread, Ajax lined out thusly:

1st half- Gentenaar; Colin, Vd Wiel, Vertonghen, Emanuelson; Kennedy, Perez, Sarpong, Schilder; Rommedahl, Leonardo.

2nd half- Gentenaar; Ogararu, Vermaelen, Vd Heijden, Slijngard; Delorge, De Jong, Anita; Suarez, Cvitanich, Luque.

Jeroen Ketting is a ex-pro, played for the most part of his carreer in the Dutch 1st division.

Yeah, and it's actually a safe bet that he's making better money now than at some of those First Division clubs...

Two equalizers... that's not good, but I must say: I find it very reassuring that Van Basten has made clear that it is "desirable" to buy a "Jaap Stam-type defender" and that Danny Blind has echoed that by stating that Ajax will purchase "one, possibly two defenders" to complete the squad.

At least they're aware of it. Last year I had the impression that Ten Cate and Van Geel did not even notice how badly we needed an extra defender.
