Time for a short winter break now...
The first match of 2007 is Ajax Cape Town versus the 'mothership' from Amsterdam. Ajax will visit their 'sister club' once again in January, for a training camp from 08 to 17 January. This game is, as yet, the only confirmed friendly match during the trip. It will be played at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town on Sunday 14 January, kick-off 3:45pm local time (2.45pm CET).

ELF football magazine reports that Henk ten Cate will bring three youngsters along to South Africa for a try-out with the first team, namely Jeffrey Sarpong and Vurnon Anita of Young Ajax, as well as Mitchell Donald of Ajax A1. They will almost certainly get the chance to prove themselves in the Ajax Cape Town friendly.

Hi Everyone -
I was wondering if there are there any good prospects for Ajax among the Ajax Cape Town players.

There is one Ajax Cape Town player on a try-out in Amsterdam at the moment: a bloke named Stanton Lewis, who is currently playing for Young Ajax. Other than that I haven't really heard any names through the grapevine in recent months, but that might change after next week's friendly: if an Ajax Cape Town player does extremely well against Ajax his name will surely pop up in some transfer reports.
Normally, though, I wouldn't expect Ajax to sign up first teamers from Cape Town. I think they're looking out for South African youth players, rather than first teamers. But they'll definitely do some scouting this week and they will see loads of ACT youth players in action.

I think that Lewis is more than on try-out. If my translation is good, he joined Ajax this summer and signed for four years. Here is an interview (in dutch) of the guy :

(Just found a news about
the departure of Lewis from Ajax CT. Didn't find anything more recent in English...)

There are a couple of young blokes that are supposed to be very talented. I can't think of their names right now but if I would see them in a list I think I would recognize them.

Siwahla's one of them, I think. Granwald Scott has been on trial at Ajax before.

On ajaxfotoside.nl there is also an exlusive coverage of the South Afrika trip. 20 supporters from Amsterdam have travelled along with the team to South Afrika.

22 different players were involved in the game, so no problem. 1-0 in halftime, and then the reserves lost 3-0 in the second half.

Yeah, and it was 30 degrees (Celsius), so nothingto worry about, I guess.

It's not true. It wasn't like the first team playing in the first half and the second team in the second. It was mixed:
Ajax first half:
Stekelenburg; Anita, Grygera, Vertonghen, Lindenbergh; Donald, Perez, Gabri; De Mul, Babel en Rosenberg.
Ajax second half:
Gentenaar; Ogararu, Maduro, Vermaelen, Emanuelson; Leonardo, Krohn-Dehli, Sarpong (79. Manucharyan); Rosales, Huntelaar en Mitea.
I think in the second half the same number of the normal start line-up were involved.

And another bad behaviour was shown against Cape Town: within 6 minutes, Ajax Amsterdam conceeded 2 goals! Where did we see that before (Vitesse - Ajax)?

And NEC...
Ajax 'doing the collapse' in less than ten minutes' time... It's the latest trend.
