Danny Blind thinks that four points from the remaining three games will be enough for Ajax to advance. One at Thun and three at home against Sparta would be the most logical way to grab them.

Personally, I am not too convinced that four points will be enough. It will only be enough if Arsenal win everything from now on. If either Thun or Sparta grab a surprising result against Arsenal, Ajax might require six, so let's go for that and not be happy with a draw in Berne.

We have to beat Thun, if only because we're Ajax. We just have to beat small-timers like these.

So, Ajax did not exactly have a great 'dress rehearsal' for Wednesday, but FC Thun had an even worse weekend. They suffered a 1-6 (!) home defeat to FC Zürich.

To be honest, I don't really understand how that lot ever eliminated Dinamo Kiev and stuffed Malmö FF by 5-0 on aggregate. They were very poor indeed at the ArenA and, although I definitely expect them to be better at home, their results in the league are a bit inconsistent at the very least.

We have to beat this side. Let's not be satisfied with a draw. We have to win.

Maduro, Urby and Pienaar were slightly injured but they will be available for Wednesday's game.

The only game i've seen in the past two weeks is Ajax v Thun ....... been away from home.... Seems i have missed out on a hell of a lot of frustration: 3 fucking Eredivisie games without a goal! What the fuck is wrong with this team?

AJAX WITHOUT TRABELSI

Ajax will be without defender Hatem Trabelsi for their Group B Champions League clash with Swiss outfit FC Thun on Wednesday night.

The right back is suffering with a hamstring injury which he picked up against SC Heerenveen in the Eredivisie clash on Friday.

"He had some tests on Monday but Wednesday is too soon for him," said Ajax coach Danny Blind.

Striker Angelos Charisteas has also not travelled with the rest of the squad to Switzerland as he continues to have problems following the concussion he sustained in the match against Arsenal four weeks ago.

Blind will be forced to make changes to his team, notably because of the absence of Trabelsi, although his firing line should remain unaltered.

"I want to make as few changes as possible. The 0-0 against Heerenveen doesn't change that. Steven Pienaar is as good as fit so I won't have to make many changes up front," Blind continued.

Ajax beat their Swiss rivals 2-0 in Amsterdam a fortnight ago but trail Group B leaders Arsenal by five points in the standings.

They are also 15 points behind Eredivisie leaders PSV despite a good run of form lately which has seen them unbeaten in six outings.

Blind now wants to take courage from their league performances as his side bid to make it through to the last 16 of the European competition, starting in Switzerland.

"We do have perspective and looking at how we are doing in the Eredivisie, that is a good idea.

"It offers us a possibility to smell success again however difficult the match tomorrow might be," he added.

"It is necessary that we do not get behind in the match. If they get the first goal they will defend that and that's what Thun can do.

"When they are ahead they are a tough team to beat. Against Zurich they came behind and they were forced to take risks, that is something they don't like that much."

Ajax's injured captain Julien Escude has travelled with the team to Thun.

The French defender has not been part of Blind's selection for several weeks already and had looked to be out of tomorrow's game too.

But Blind explained: "Because Urby Emanuelson has a few minor complaints, I took him as the 19th player with us."

FC Thun are just a point behind their Dutch opponents in the table with three points to their name.

They can still qualify to the next stages of the competition but after playing Ajax they face the difficult task of facing group leaders Arsenal and Sparta Prague.

Thun are currently fifth in the Swiss Super League table but head into the Champions League clash on the back of a 6-1 defeat to FC Zurich.
