18 Sep 2005: AZ - Ajax

I thought AZ were going to fall apart, but I stand corrected and I must admit I'm impressed with Louis van Gaal's work (I thought he was going to f*ck it up and start a war with the press). Here's the story of AZ so far: 4 games, 12 points, 17 goals (!!), 1 conceded and a topscorer (Arveladze) who scored 7 in 4. Reminder: we won't have Grygera to mark him.

In other words: this will be one hell of a tough game -- let's just regard this fixture as a BIG one (PSV/Feyenoord caliber).

One detail that could be important: Ajax play their European game on Wednesday, in a fairly nearby place that's easy to get to (direct flights), whereas AZ play on Thursday at a Russian club named FC Krylya Sovetov Samara. Louis van Gaal was not at all pleased with it and apparently it's quite a job to get there (he sounded as if they pretty much have to walk from Moscow... :D ). Might be an exhausting one for AZ.

Oh, forget it: they will be ready for us.

Yep...this one will be tough. No doubt about it. If we can come away with a point I would be happy.

These are the games that separate the champs from the chumps. Lets see what they have in store... Tough no doubt about it but i'll bet it's going to be one hell of an entertaining one too :xyxthumbs:.

I prey to the heavens that Espn show this one :eusa_pray:

So, the question is: will Arie van Eijden and John Jaakke walk up to Louis van Gaal on Sunday in Alkmaar to shake hands and have a friendly chat?

Ummmm... let's see... My guess is 'no'. :D
"As a technical director it was my job to evaluate Koeman's work as a coach and also the way he interacted with the squad. Both were not good. Koeman never made Ajax better and he completely ignored the 'Ajax style'. His purchases were bad, too. All of that needs to be reorganized now. (...) Van Eijden and chairman John Jaakke are too concerned about the public opinion. That's the worst thing executives can do. It means you don't have a philosophy of your own."
- AZ head-coach Louis van Gaal, former head-coach and technical director of Ajax, in newspaper Het Parool.
Van Gaal: :headbang:

This game is big and well take some doing, personally, I believe that AZ Alkmaar will win eredivisie after 25 years, but I do believe we can come away with a point!

You know, you maybe on to something there. In all honesty, if Ajax cant win the league I would love to see a team like AZ walk away with the shield...hey who knows the way Heracles are playing...

the only part of the statement which does not sound right is "Van Eijden and chairman John Jaakke are too concerned about the public opinion" ....

According to Ajax Netwerk, SQD won't play that game too. With Grygera suspended, who will play next to Maduro ? Heitinga ? :???:

I think Heitinga should be given a chance, he looks determined to do well.
F**k the haters!

AZ messed up in Russia earlier today losing 5:3. Why did Van Gaal go with Steinsson And Vlaar in defence ? How much football have that pair played this season previous to today ?

I think this points to AZ 0:0 Ajax . My conclusions of course are based on scientific reasoning not science fiction :D

Crap that means either De Jong or Heitinga plus Maduro, against a high scoring team like AZ that is bad news for us.

well, it seems that we can do without SQD : he was terrible in the feyenoord game, and we did not miss him in Prague. But Grygera being suspended is a problem...
Anyway, as Blind said, we have to win this game. And we will since AZ had a hard time in their UEFA game in Russia.

Id say Heitinga will be replacing Grygera, or De Jong put in midfieled, lindenbergh put back and emmanuelson out

Why not give Vermaelen a chance?even Vermeer? Isnt that the whole purpose...to groom Youngsters from the junior team into the senior team

Cause Grygera is now FREE and Vermeer is a third pick (since stekkie is injured)

Zoef is right: the KNVB overruled the referee and decided not to suspend Grygera. That's very good news.

To much a risk, this is a key game for Ajax maybe against a weaker team like Groningen.

If Grygera is able to play than its going to be Grygera-Maduro at the back plus Emanuelson and Trabelsi off course.

Crap x 4 . Messy first goal for AZ and shitty defending from Trabelsi on the third goal.

I'm begining to warm to this concept of play-offs for the second Champions League spot between the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th placed teams at the end of the season.......

assist on Sneijder's first goal I think ...

my own question is : who sacked van Gaal ??? where is that guy ? hiding somewhere in Argentina ? or taking a rest with the Ajax board ?

1. It was Lindenbergh
2. Rosenberg was crap again, because he is a crap player and not suitable for the AJAX gameplan.
3. Van Gaal resigned and was not sacked.
