A trip to Prague should be challenging for this team that has not been good away from home.

Weghorst and Henderson are out injured for this match and did not travel with the team.

Its much worse Traore and Fitz-Jim are not fit . Upfront Faberski and Konadu are added although Faberski played 90 mins for Jong on Monday.Rijkhoff incidently has a minor knee injury. Its lucky we did not sell Akpom as Weghorst is still unfit.

MF is dreadful Klaassen of course is not eligible. V D Boomen,Taylor and Hlynsson plus Tahirovic who played 90 mins for Jong and was poor .Baas could be used as DM bringing Rugani to LCD.

Another 3 am kickoff for me. I’ll watch it later and hope for a draw. Haven’t bothered to work out the new format yet but away draws are usually good enough in the group stage.

Very very open game and our defense is being run ragged. We need to slow down the pace of this game and look for a 2nd one.

Slavia will definitely get a goal if the play continues in its current form.

Brobbey does need to improve his finishing. He should've had at least 2 more on target after all the hard work he put in. He missed on both occasions.

Baas shown a second yellow and heads off to an early shower. Was a fair YC as he tried to stamp the ball down with studs showing.

Pheeeeeew. Somehow we kept our heads and more to rescue a point. That was quite remarkable to watch.

Normally I would've expected Ajax to have lost in this case.

In Farioli we trust.

Somehow got a draw but the ref was dreadful towards the end .2 or 3 of their players should have had yellows and Wijndal and Gaaei get yellows for time wasting when bottles were thrown at them.

As for the game it was a dreadful game of football .Ajax have to bring on 2 poor back up full backs as we have no wingers .Faberski and Konadu could only have done better but the tacking by the Czechs would probably have ended with broken legs.

A good penalty ,Brobbey should have buried at least one of his 2 chances apart from that nothing much more to say.

The ref totally lost the plot in the 2nd half. The Czechs were hitting us all through the game, but would drop dead at the slightest touch.

So, I actually liked our gamesmanship to waste time and keep the 1-1 intact while being down to 10 players for about 20 minutes.

The ref was actually as poor as I have seen ,in the 2nd half he acted like their 12th man.A tackle on Wijndal was a clear red but not even a yellow.The big guy who scored their goal just knocked Rugani off his feet in our area with play nowhere near.

Not saying it would have made any difference to the result but we got more cards than them but they were the dirtier side and had the ref on their side.

Sorry for the late report but I had to watch the replay as it is Rosh Hashanah today. This had to be one of the ugliest matches I've seen Ajax play and they were lucky to get away with a point. Slavia are the top side in Czechia. The Latavian match official was out of his depth and lost control of the game early. He tried a mid-course correction in the 2nd half issuing a bunch of YCs but that just seemed to inflame all the players even more. Full credit to Pasveer for making some top notch saves. Baas was a bit unfortunate in the sending off as the 2nd YC was pretty marginal in my opinion. Sutalo was a rock on defense again. Brobbey should have done much better on his second chance on goal and he knew it.

Player Ratings:

Pasveer (8) - couldn't stop the goal that evened things up but otherwise was solid
Rensch (7.5) - did a fine job of defending on the night
Sutalo (8) - solid job
Baas (5.5) - defended well but was sent off for a second YC
Hato (7.5) - rock solid defending particularly when Ajax were down to 10 men
van den Boomen (6.5) - did OK but his free kicks were poor, though his PK was solid enough
Taylor (6) - had one good move in the box but otherwise just average
Hlynsson (5.5)- had little impact and came off injured in the 2nd half
Rasmussen (6) - gets a point for drawing the penalty
Brobbey (5.5) - held the ball up well and drew a bunch of fouls but we really need more from him
Godts (6) - tracked back well but could not do much offensively
Tahirovic (6.5) - decent enough defending as it was really needed
Wijndal (6) - OK match as he moved up to play left wing in place of Godts
Gaaei (6) - had one good run into the box but it was not going to happen tonight
Akpom (5.5) - average at best
Rugani (NR) - on late and had a couple of good clearances

Groningen coming up at the weekend and I hope some of the starters are healthy!!!

Awful game, couldn’t get the ball over the halfway line so I’m very happy we get away with a draw. Not sure why there is so much hype about Godts as he seems pretty hopeless to me, not that any of the attacking players played well today.

And yes, bizarre refereeing as is typical for this competition.
