15 MAY 2021; Vitesse - Ajax; Match Day 34

The last game of the championship is this Sunday at Vitesse. EtH has indicated he wants to put a strong team out every match so we can expect a decent front line with maybe Idrissi getting a final start for Ajax. The MF is going to be a bit of a puzzle. Kudus probably will start but Klaassen may be unavailable because of the injury that sidelined him yesterday. Taylor is suspended and Ekkelenkamp will likely start again but the only other healthy MF is Gravenberch. Will a player from Jong Ajax be promoted? Back line should be the same as yesterday.

line up. Steks,Timber,Schuurs,Martinez,Rensch,Ekkelenkamp,Gravenberch,Kudus,Antony,Haller,Tadic.

Shame Taylor got a red as he could have started in place of Ekkelenkamp. Klaassen is not on the bench but 17 year old Jong MF Kian Fitz-Jim is on the bench.

Two nice goals and then a junk goal conceded. Ajax need to remember that teams are always most vulnerable right after scoring.

Ajax were quite sloppy with the ball but in the end it was a relatively smooth 1-3 win in Arnehm. Had Vitesse been more accurate in their shooting the match might have been interesting. Ajax MFs decided the match with good performances from all three starters. Cameos at the end from Idrissi and Labyad who should be on their way elsewhere now. Maybe this was the last match also for Neres. We'll see what Overmars does to strengthen the squad now.

Player Ratings:

Stekelenburg (6) - just watched lots of shots sail above the cross bar
Rensch (6.5) - decent match from the young FB
Martinez (7) - solid game and a cheeky tap in for the third goal
Schuurs (7) - did let the Vitesse man get goal side but the fault for the goal was further upfield; had some very nice runs into the attacking half
Timber (6) - uncharacteristically sloppy with the ball
Gravenberch (7.5) - solid match and super smooth ball handling
Kudus (6.5) - better match today but did concede possession a couple of times
Ekkelenkamp (7) - really solid game and had a couple of shots well saved
Tadic (7) - usual fine match from the captain
Haller (7) - good play with the ball and easy goal to open the scoring
Antony (7) - got the match winner
Neres (6) - OK as a sub and is perhaps on his way this summer
Brobbey (NR) - on late for Haller; will he be back???
Klaiber (NR) - on late
Idrissi (NR)
Labyad (NR)

Ajax with over 100 goals scored and the highest point total since 1998. Good season all around and with a couple of breaks could have done better in Europe.

PSV drew so we end up 16 (!) points clear on 88 with 102 goals. Not a bad season in the eredivisie. Was partly a story of depth with lots of injuries and suspensions etc to deal with, but also consistently good output from a few key players.

I think we did ourselves a bit short in Europe so that will be a goal for next season.

A comfortable win by Ajax, at 2-0 I thought thats game over but a very sloppy goal to concede. Vitesse had their moments in the 2nd half but once we finally got the 3rd that was it.

We finish 16 points clear and now need to start sorting out our squad for next season.Ekkelenkamp did ok today but hopefully we wont see Labyad or idrissi in an Ajax shirt again. No idea what is going to happen with Brobbey.

Man of the season Tadic but a mention for Steks who has been very good since coming in.Pasveer did not look too bad today to be our no 2 next season.

100% agree with SPL that Tadic was our best player this season. I think it’s a fan vote though so my guess is Klaassen gets it.
