Only five more matches left in what has been very congested fixture schedule because of COVID and all the Euro matches. AZ should be well rested for this game not having played last weekend or mid-week. This will be a toughly fought match.

I won’t be surprised if we drop points today. AZ will be desperate for three points since PSV won.

We are struggling to say the least. AZ should have scored a couple. Let’s turn it around!

Pretty exciting half. AZ had the better of the play by a slim margin. Two fine saves from Stekelenburg and a great defensive play by Alvarez kept AZ off the scoreboard. Ajax had some chances as well but are quite poor on the ball giving it up cheaply on occasion. AZ look well rested and are pressing quite well in contrast to the two previous matches.

Like Utrecht at Ht I would settle for a draw

Terrible half of football - lose every 50/50 duel -can't put two attacking passes together - clearing balls all go to the other team - lucky to still be in it at 0-0.

Too slow with the ball! AZ are sending a second defender to put pressure on the ball and it’s working.

The fans sound great, they’re making a lot of noise for 7500 people and it’s something I’ve really missed.

The substitution bringing on Maz and Neres for Rentsch and Antony really turned the game around - they finally started playing with a purpose.

Much better second half - AZ couldn’t keep the pressure on the ball up and we could have scored 5.

A tough season all up, given the European results, but great to come away with the domestic double.

Klaassen the hero as we can no longer lose the title unless PSV win all 4 games and we lose our remaining games about 6-0 each .

Frustrating 2nd half watching as my usual stream did not work ,got one for 1st half but it was around 60 min mark before I got one working for 2nd half .

So we can relax for a week as no mid week games and celebrate properly next Sunday.

Just when I thought Ajax had run out of gas, they found another gear in the second half and dominated play for a fine 2-0 win. Championship should be locked down next weekend. Props to all the players for coming up with the energy. Although not the highest rated player, Stekelenburg is MOTM for me with two outstanding saves in the first half that prevented AZ from taking the lead. Alvarez is also singled out for a spectacular tackle a couple of yards from the goal mouth to prevent what might have been another goal. Klaassen still has a horrible first touch but who on this team has a better head for goal?

Player Ratings:

Steks (7) - honestly had little to do after the two very nice saves in the first half
Tagliafico (7.5) - just a whirlwind today rampaging down the sideline and defending well
Martinez (6.5) - half point off for the slip that let his attacker in on goal for a free shot
Timber (7) - another solid match
Rensch (6.5) - played well again
Alvarez (7.5) - dominated the midfield with good interventions and his goal line tackle was important
Gravenberch (7) - great ball control and distribution in the 2nd half
Klaassen (7.5) - pressed aggressively and got the game winner and an added goal
Tadic (7) - this was his 56 match in all competitions this season and it's beginning to show; still he had a great assist on the game winner
Haller (6.5) - didn't score but his positional play was very good and letting the ball go to Klaassen on the 1st goal was sublime
Antony (6.5) - had a lot of the ball, pressed and tracked back for a good all around match
Neres (6) - some decent touches
Mazraoui (6) - good to see him back in action
Brobbey (5.5) - on late and had one chance on goal that was saved
Idrissi (NR) - on late for Tadic

A couple of things I want to point out.

This game was won with what journalists call: The heart of the champion! We upped our game in the second half and showed no signs of fatigue. AZ seemed like a small team again. We certainly have the upper hand on them this year! I actually enjoy beating them. They have grown to be super annoying, considering themselves to be a championship winning team or even better, a team that was robbed of last years first place. Hahaha get 2 goals and go home.

I was especially surprised by the booing of Brobbey. How about that? I didn't expect it, especially after the heartwarming clapping when Haller was subbed off

Well Brobbey is a young kid who has fully enjoyed the Ajax youth academy and once Ajax wanted to use the finished product, he is signing somewhere else. That's my opinion and I'm, sure a lot of fans think this was. We want to see players like him, play for at least 2 seasons in the first team and then make the move.

Had we been playing in front of full crowds I am sure Brobbey would have had loads of booing after signing for Leipzig. Now we have the title there is no need to give him anymore play time and the same goes for Idrissi, both will gone after this season.

Sorry for the delay in posting here - but it was a game of two halves. Whatever ETH said at HT plus the 2 subs of Neres and Nous completely did the trick.

We were getting overrun in the first half and you thought that maybe AZ wouldn't be able to keep the fierceness up for the full 90 minutes.

Like SPL, I hope we don't see Brobbey on the pitch anymore. We need a draw out of the next 4 games. I would like to see more of Traore, Kudus and maybe even Taylor for the rest of the season.
