After the horrible, terrible, not very good match last night in Spain Ajax will travel to Alemo to take on Heracles. Ajax are clearly missing both of their starting wing players, Promes and Neres. Promes is doing some training but I haven't seen any word about Neres return. Last night was again proof of how much de Ligt and de Jong are missed from this year's team. Of course we know that losing key players is a fact of life but to get only one shot on goal is unacceptable for a team that has an attacking personality. We'll see if ETH can get this club back on track and avoid another ignominious departure from the Europa League.

Ziyech is not fit and not even on the bench. Onana; Dest, Schuurs, Blind, Tagliafico; Martinez, Gravenberch, van de Beek; Tadic, Babel, Huntelaar,

Should take Babel off - why we signed him to begin with dumbfounds me - put Tadic on the left and Traore on the right.

Agree Babel is a waste of space.We are creating chances and it just needs one to in although our defence still looks like it can let in a silly goal.

Half time and several scoring chances that never made it into the net. Starting to get that nagging feeling that we will get more chances but no matter how close we come the ball will refuse to go over the line. Hope I'm wrong.

I really hate these plastic fields. The Dutch FA should give all the clubs enough money to have grass pitches. Both teams missed great scoring opportunities. Ajax seem to always have problems here.

I would just like to see an Ajax goal. Haven't seen one in about 135 minutes plus now.

Babel is a human pin-ball machine - my 6 year old's first touch is better than him. Babel even bounced back a soft played pass - WTF. Play him in CF or not at all. He's wasting a creative spot at LW.

I agree with someone else who posted above me, move Tadic to LW, Traore at RW and Huntelaar at CF.

...and we're down 1-0. Schoolboy error by Blind, but I'm guessing the wind swirling around didn't help him and made it look worse.

Maybe the streams all going down was a sign as clearly Ajax's rubbish form continues. 3 points clear but AZ and an inform Feyenoord coming up plus Utrecht away. We could face finishing 3rd on current form !!!

absolutely pathetic. why eth is still playing Babel is beyond me. schuurs needs to play a few more games for jong ajax, this level is clearly way to high for him. piss poor performance with no creativity

Another disappointing loss against Heracles for the third year running. Ajax are never comfortable on plastic surfaces and they couldn't adjust to passing on a slow pitch. I was going to be content with a 0-0 draw and then Blind made an uncharacteristic blunder and Dessers hit the back of the net to become the top scorer in the Eredivisie. Without the key starters, Ajax will face a difficult time in every match going forward and another slip up or two are entirely possible. Feyenoord are on a roll and I can't see Ajax winning in Rotterdam right now. The magic of last season is gone and the team just looks too ordinary.

Player Ratings:

Onana (7.5) - no chance on the goal but three very good saves kept it from humiliation
Tagliafico (6) - decent enough match but could not deliver anything on offense
Blind (4.5) - a couple of very bad errors including totally missing his man on the match winner obscured a better than average match
Schuurs (6) - yes he had a couple of poor give aways but also made some crucial interventions
Dest (6.5) - one of the better players today
Martinez (5.5) - looked out of sorts and came off at the half
Gravenberch (4.5) - poor passing and some defensive lapses
van de Beek (6) - best scoring chance of the day with a rocket off the bottom of the crossbar
Babel (4) -exceedingly poor
Huntelaar (5.5) - worked hard but that was it
Tadic (5.5) - it's just not happening this year
Eiting (6) - He needs to be starting against Getafe as he pushes the offense forward
Danilo (5) - had a chance for a goal at the end of the match but not much else
Ekelenkamp (NR)

Getafe on Thursday and then AZ at home on Sunday. We'll know what this team is made of in seven days. Overcoming the two goal deficit to Getafe will be very difficult as this team really has trouble scoring.

Well I actually miss the next 2 games.Thursday I am going out with friends to a quiz and next Sunday is my wife's birthday. The way I feel at present a week without following 2 games live may be a good thing. Ajax have been piss poor since that Chelsea game ,except v ADO. Fed up that like Sparta game the 2nd half again no streams which makes following much worse.

Not sure Ziyech was a 100% fit for this game ,hence he missed it. Tadic Babel are both contributing zero at present and we have no creative midfielders .

I hope Getafe ko us out on Thursday,we can then concentrate 100% on the title.If we end up 2nd or 3rd then heads will roll,ETH would then have to go and sadly due to the poor signings of Magallan Alvarez and Marin then will Overmars go! I am being serious.Gravenberch ,Ekkelenkamp,Danilo and Schuurs are not Ajax first team players at present and the fact Alvarez and Marin are rated behind them ,sadly shows what a poor summer it was with signings.

200m in the bank 3 or 4 injured players and we have kids playing because the new signings are frankly rubbish.

Such an annoying result. I actually thought Ajax was going to fumble one in and win until Dessers scored. He got between Blind and Nico and shoved Blind out of the way - that was a smart move against a smaller central defender and kept Schuurs out of the play.

Agree about Babel, hopeless in this match, but he was brought in in a panic as cover and has wound up starting most matches.

I’m afraid we can forget about the EL... can anyone see Ajax turning over a 2-0 with this lineup?

I didn't watch the match but Getafe got thrashed by Sevilla 0-3. Match reports have said it was a comprehensive beating. I don't rate Getafe other than they play a rough style of football that has always given Ajax problems. I'm not optimistic as Ajax are having troubles scoring goals in the absence to wingers who can put the ball in the net.

Promes has been doing some training but not with the team. I have not heard anything about Neres.

ok so likely no promes for the az game and definitely no neres. a bit strange situation with neres. i thought based on initial injury report, he was supposed to be back already.

Promes may be available for Getafe. We need him back quickly.
