30 SEP 2014 Apoel Nicosia - Ajax CL Group F Match #2

Off to Cyprus to take on Apoel in what could be a very difficult fixture. A couple of years ago they made it out of the group stage and look to be a tough nut to crack at home. Lost to Barca in the first match 1-0. Club cannot afford to concede cheap goals as they did today and hope for a positive result.

Their manager, Yorgos Donis, was the guy from Panathinaikos who run half the field and passed to Krzysztof Warzycha who scored in the 1996 semi final in the old Olympic Stadium! Our final CL game in the stadium and it was a defeat!

Bit early for these calculations but I guess we want Barça to take 6 points off PSG. That way, as long as we get 6 points from Apoel (which won't be easy), one other slip from PSG, who were unimpressive in the ArenA, may leave second place for us...

Talk in France is that this could be the manager's last game tonight.
There's a major rift in the dressing room between the Zlatanites and the rest, something to do with "privileges".

Pity for us if he goes since he's doing a crap job; van der Wiel said after the Ajax game that the squad weren't prepared for Ajax's style, which seems to me a cause for instant dismissal given it's in the Champions League.

I don't have a good feeling about our game though ... it will be a very intense experience for the younger players.

I'll get to watch the first half but I don't have a good feeling about this one either. Ajax's opponent looks to be a pretty solid side with experience. The defense will have a much more difficult time of it. A lot more so than against NAC, with only Veltman playing well on the back line. A draw would be welcomed today, me thinks.

Well Apoel look pretty poor and they're only going to hurt us if we allow them set pieces and counter attacks. Problem is Boilesen and Siggy keep handing them the ball!

Why do we keep getting bad calls? There were a couple of fouls on us that went uncalled as well. Sigthorrsson has not been good, should have buried the ball. Serero gave up possession at least three times and one of them led to the break where the penalty was called. I've liked Andersen so far this match; only got in trouble one time where he conceded possession. Moisander had to take the Yellow card as he was stranded with nobody behind him.

Well the old crap Siggy missing a simple tap in for a goal. Andersen took the rebound well for the goal.As for the penalty couldn't see V Rhijn handling ,a woeful decision imo.

I'm sure the Apoel striker took it down with his hand first but the replays are all focussing on where it hit van Rhijn.

Well, we're pretty much on top, just a question of putting a couple away before they score off a corner or something. Sigh.
