27 Feb 2014: FC Red Bull Salzburg - Ajax

UEFA Europa League 2013-2014. Round of 32. Second leg.

Kick-off time at The Red Bull Arena, in the Salzburg suburb of Wals-Siezenheim, is 19:00 CET.

A formality...? I would think so. Which means, in practice, that this trip and this fixture are a bit of a pain in the a##. To hell with it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Frank de Boer rests a few players. We have several injuries upfront (Schöne, Fischer), so I'd say it wouldn't be smart to play a youngster like Kishna. We may need him in Rotterdam on Sunday.

K.

Well Fischer is out for 6 weeks,Boilesen for several weeks and Schone not sure, although torn ankle ligaments surely will be weeks! Serero is just about fit but wont play this game.

Vermeer Ligeon ,Denswil, Riedewald , de Sa,Andersen and maybe even Sana need to play.We have to rest players for Fword.

^then I would give him a start in the match! My preferred lineup is:

Cillessen
van Rhijn, van der Hoorn, Denswil, Riederwald
Andersen, Poulsen, Duarte
Kishna (only for 1/2), de Jong, Bojan

Give the critical starters the day off so they are rested for the Klassiker.

The starting line-up looks awkward. Cillessen, Van Rhijn, Van der Hoorn, Denswil, Blind, Klaassen, Poulsen, De Jong, De Sa, Siggy, Duarte.

The apparent lineup is:

Cillessen, van Rhijn, van der Hoorn, Denswil, Blind, Poulsen, de Jong, Klaassen, de Sa, Sigthorrson, Duarte

With the molasses quick midfield that FdB is putting out there I don't think we need to worry about progressing in the EL any longer.

We need to adopt the tactics Copenhagen used in a home game against Madrid successfully. As their coach said the plan is to score 4 quick goals and then play counter-attack. They failed a bit but we must succeed. :onfire.gif: :onfire.gif: :onfire.gif:

For the first time cannot say I am really looking forward to the game. It does appear a lost cause and I just hope we get no injuries.Sunday is far more important.

That's so simple. They long ball into our part of the field and then pressure and we lose the ball. De Boer needs to understand that being balbezit champions between defenders and goalkeeper means nothing.

We are very lucky not to be behind by three goals. Denswill has been horrible! The match is much too fast for Poulsen. Sigthorrson cannot hold up a ball to save his life. Duarte can't keep possession. Klaassen is AWOL. de Jong is too slow. Otherwise everyone is playing fantastic football but they are wearing Salzburg colors. de Sa has been OK and van der Hoorn has not made a mistake. Blind is good but wasted at left fullback as Salzburg are attacking up the middle and on the left. It will take a couple of Red cards for this team to mount a credible offense.

FdB will be pleased with the result and our display of course. The plan - 'Not to lose in double figures' - is working perfect!

Wow, it could be 3–0 again. These guys are pretty impressive, I know we're out of form but even Barça didn't make us look this bad.

It's easy to beat a team like Salzburg. Unfortunately it requires two decent quick midfielders with ball skills. We have three who possess don't possess those attributes. There is no one for the the two central defenders to pass to and this means we have to play long ball which we cannot do. Just a pathetic approach to football by the Ajax coaching staff. Did they not see last week's game in the Arena? I will pose the perennial question, "what is Dennis Bergkamp's role on the coaching staff?" He above all should have some clue!

van der Hoorn is turning into the King of Own Goals, not a good title to have.
