FC Groningen vs THE CHAMPIONS

Not many Ajax people will give a toss about this one... but it would be nice if we win anyway.

FC Groningen have apparently refused to do a "guard of honour" before the game when the Ajax players enter the field (as Arsenal did for Man U despite the Robin van Peris sensitivity).

Not that I'm really fussed, that and the ceremonial handshakes that have been introduced in the Premiership all seem a bit of a nonsense that can only create artificial issues, but still it seems a bit small minded and "provincial" to make a point of refusing....

Plus it's always nice to see some of the youngsters/fringe players get a run out.

Frank de Boer already released his starting line-up for Sunday... and why not?

This lineup shows that Frank has respect for the game, which is nice, but I did want to see players like Boilesen, Veltman, Dijks, and Denswil get some playing time.

Yeah, it looks like he's pretty keen on a win. I have to say I like the idea of having Babel on the right on Boerrigter on the left a lot more than the other way around.

Boilesen is in the squad for the first time in a looooong time, so it's a safe bet he will get some minutes.

Wow, crazy tackle from Lindgren! At first I didn't think it was that bad, but on the replay... was he even aiming at the ball?

A bit lucky to still be up 1-0. A couple of poor plays by Blind which was quite surprising. Groningen just cannot finish the few chances they had while Ajax get one chance and finish it.

Things were getting pretty chippy there, weren't they? 1-0 at the half... let's keep our cool, boys.

Well, that had to rate as one of the most boring 45 minutes of football seen so far this season.

Another game with Siem de Jong contributing almost nothing. I really wonder what is the type of game that he can actually play well, and in what position. In a game when we need creativity from our midfield, he definitely dissapears, as this proves to be. Not even there to drop deep and try to put a few passes. I would really like to see a statistic of his number of touches and passes. I think he even has a very low number of back passes, he just doesnt show up at all.
