A win is a must. It's simple as that. Twente is back to their 1 goal wins way and needs to be punished for such disgrace.

Great...got a night off and a cheap flight...have to get back into the routine....given my notice in at work this week so many more games are free for me this year!!!

Roll on another 3 points.....YES, I'm thinking positively!!!

Twente is six points ahead of us with six straight wins so it would be vital to collect all three points tonight. We have the same squad as in the cup game against utrecht so Sporksdele could make his debut in the eredivisie.

As pointed out on the Scoreboard Journalism blog, Twente have only played one of last season's top-7 teams so far this season...

Should be an interesting match, we've been putting away the crap teams at home but we've struggled against better teams (PSV, Heerenveen).

Madrid must be really worried about the CL fixture to send Mourinho to scout this match. After the first half I don't think he needs to worry too much. Lots of possession but Ajax are like molasses in winter in terms of getting the ball up from the back. Twente are predictably putting 10 men behind the ball as soon as it is played and bunkering down. We had a chance and a half from a couple of Eriksen passes but that was about it. I'm sure Twente will be pleased with a 0-0 draw which is how this one is shaping up. Poulsen is not the type of midfielder who can speed up play and we all know about de Jong in the midfield. It will be interesting to see what FdB decides to do in the second half.

I think Twente will fancy themselves for a goal on the counter as well.

Breaking up Twente's is defence will be a challenge for FDB. May be we can get some goals off set-pieces but we are not winning many corners or dangerous free-kick.

But whatever, we need to score a goal, better 2 because Twente won't run forward when trailing one goal until it is 88 minute or something.

a good win with a fine performance from Eriksen .Twente seemed to be playing for a draw and Vermeer only had one real shot to save.

Not pretty but in the end a deserved win against a team that came prepared to park everyone in the defensive half of the field. Eriksen finally had the match that he has been promising and showed that he is the best player on this very young Ajax team. Ryan Babel did what needed to be done up front and laid the ball off perfectly on the goal. Kudos to the defense who kept their heads in the game, a challenge when the other team is seeing so little of the ball in the Ajax defensive end. The team really needs better options when bringing the ball up from the back and probably the wingers need to rotate more to create some openings for passing lanes. I don't know what de Jong adds to the team when faced with a bunker down defense; a more creative midfielder might be better.

Player Ratings:

Vermeer (7) - one really difficult stop when he was screened on the header and had a couple of other easy stops, again some poor kicking
Blind (7) - did not deserve the foul on the nice tackle late in the second half and played some good control ball
Moisander (7) - solid match and had to be good on the free kicks
Alderwiereld (7.5) - if he doesn't make the challenge on Schilder the match is probably over
van Rhijn (6.5) - would have been a 7 if he didn't lose Chadli and have to be bailed out by Toby
Poulsen (7) - just a good solid match, while I would like more quick passing it's just not going to happen with him but defensively a rock
Eriksen (8) - MOTM and really showed he wanted this one bad, made some great passes and constantly was getting free in the midfield
de Jong (6) - other than receiving some short passes in the midfield really did not contribute
Sana (6.5) - OK, but probably should have done better in terms of passing
Babel (7.5) - held the ball up well and came back to create some passing options to create space
Boerrigter (6.5) - same as Sana, OK but is capable of more
Sulejmani (6) - looks like he is getting into match fitness, wouldn't be surprised if he starts against Utrecht
Sporkslede (NR) - glad to see him come on but not on long enough

Madrid on Wednesday followed by Utrecht. It will be interesting to see what Mourinho took away from this match.

GREAT RESULT !!! Defeat the masters of 1:0 with a 1:0 . Perfect. Perfect time for Christian Eriksen to step up. May he continue in this vein on Wednesday .

have to add for a top of the table team Twente played aweful football but then again what can you expect with an english coach in charge. We did struggle to break them down
and as well as Eriksen played we need another more creative midfeilder than Siem.

Should add that in 2008/09 the great v Basten sent an Ajax team to Enschede and they played like that ,we won 2-0 in the end but as an Ajax lover that is not football and I would never want Aax to play that type of football even if it means winning .( Trouble is I love a club called Ajax which gave the world Cruyff and total football plus the basis of Barcelona's ticky tack football comes from the influence of Ajax coaches ie JC, V Gaal and Rijkaard . I quess I have high standards ).

LOL, I remember that match well. A classic example of Italian Catanaccio of anything I've seen. I thought at the time that Marco was channeling back to his days in Italy! I agree with you that this is not the way to play.
