So, this is Ajax's first official game of the New Year: the replay of the December 2011 KNVB Cup game that was abandoned.

Eleven versus eleven men. The full 90 minutes. Starting with a 0-0 score. No fans in attendance. That's the KNVB verdict. Oh, and Ajax are to pay a 10,000 euro fine.

It's weird, but it's the truth - so let's have it.

The only thing more stupid is to ban any broadcast of the match (radio or TV) or maybe the KNVB will do this as well. Let's have a total black out of the match!

I'm really surprised about this. If the ref makes a call we don't like when we're 3-0 down, are we free to walk off and start the match again now?

There are two incidents - The attack on the keeper for which Ajax has been punished, and the refusal of AZ to complete the game which hasn't.

The KNVB justification for restarting the match is also weak. (according to ESPN)

AZ were 1-0 down at the time of Esteban's dismissal, which was rescinded on appeal.

Because of that, the KNVB felt it would be impossible to restart from that point and would instead play the full 90 minutes.

Why not just restart at the 37th minute with Esteban still on the field?
Also, since AZ have effectively been compensated for a red card deemed incorrect by the KNVB, is every club who successfully appeals against a red card now going to receive compensation?

The rest of Ajax's punishment is fairly weak though, I guess that's some compensation.

Every time i open dutch sport site or this forum, i get mad. More astonishing is how there are people, Ajaxfans, who actualy think this deicision is right. I just don't get it. How is that possible? May some of you, who is actually dutch of live in Holland explain it to me? i don't understand such sheep mantality from Ajax and the fans. The knvb must be under siege

Red cards are appealed and rescinded all the time BUT in such cases game match results are not overturned! In this case we have a gutless manager (Verbeek) who was unhappy with the way the match score stood and used a phony excuse to pull his team off the field, casting his fate to the wonderful people who run the KNVB. Of course he knew the odds were in his favor of getting the result overturned since the match had not been completed; this is what makes me really angry and I guess I stand with ACAB on this point. Has anyone kept a running tally of all the goals that we have had overturned this season by idiotic officiating? I rank this one right up there with the two Madrid goals that we lost. Pretty weird season so far.

You can complain as much as you want about this frustrated Verbeek and the KNVB, the thing is that Ajax let a fool attack a player! [And I don't even blame Ajax for this, it's not hard for me to understand that it is impossible to filter every dumbass from a 35000+ people crowd]. From that moment, whatever the reaction of Esteban and AZ, the game was ruined for good.
I mean, when you see how Vermeer can play at Utrecht in normal circumstances, imagine him after such an attack, watching his back to avoid a hypothetic second incoming idiot.... I don't think you would find this very fair to continue the game like nothing happened. And I'm pretty sure that there would be a lot of people here to say that Utrecht are ugly bastards. And I don't mention the KNVB.

The team should just use this silly decision as motivation in order to kick the squat (not literally) out of AZ twice. That way we can show Verbeek amd the KNVB the finger.

It looks like AZ is loosing Wernbloom to CSKA from Moscow. Probably it's good for us.

Boerrigter out for a few weeks and V d Wiel and Ebecelio are both out of this game .

Missing Van der Wiel is not a big problem. I prefer to see Ruben Ligeon getting some match experience.

Boerrigter needs to seriously get on a Yoga program to strengthen his back muscles!!!

odd day with a game midweek at 13.30 GMT Luckily it has been raining here and I will be watching .

Poor defending allows Martens a clear shot which he doesn't miss. 1-1

Very poor play by both fullbacks today and our midfield play is very inconsistent. We are still having problems getting out of our own end with too many long kicks by Cillesen that are not getting us anywhere. Once we are in the AZ half our offensive play isn't too bad. I suspect we will see at least three more goals in the second half.

another well taken goal by Siem and set up by Eriksen .Their goals were just a result of our poor defence

Our midfiled play is dreadful. We can't control the ball, can't create chances, loosing way too many balls which leads to counter-attacks, can't even get the ball out of the zone which was already mentiond. Our defence doesn't get much help from midfield also.

We are quite lucky not to be trailing at this point.
