09 + 12 Jan 2010: Portugal friendlies

This is the thread for the two friendly fixtures Ajax will play in South Portugal, during their training week in Albufeira.

Ajax will play the Ajax Saturday-1 amateurs on Saturday 09 January (kick-off time t.b.a.) at the ground of FC Ferreiras in Albufeira. Three days later, on Tuesday 12 January, Ajax will play FC Groningen, who are staying in Portimao. Kick-off time: t.b.a.

I expect these friendly kickabouts to be very, very low key (especially the Ajax vs Ajax one), so I thought one thread will be enough.

In addition to that: the scorers were...

1-0 Rommedahl
2-0 Donald
3-0 Suarez (penalty)
4-0 Oleguer
5-0 Emanuelson
6-0 Pantelic
7-0 Suarez

After the game Jol said the following about Pantelic's hamstring injury: "Looks like we'll be without him for a few weeks."

That's bad news.

I have read up to 5 weeks. Does anyone see us buying ? There are 5 games between 17 Jan and 7 Feb
ie NAC AZ Fword Roda and Twente. A forward line of Rommendahl Suarez and Sulejmani with the spares being Kennedy Castillion Zeegelaar.I think we can cope without injuries but if Suarez got injured Castillion as striker !!!!

Are there any viable options out there that fit into the team's budget? I'm not so sure unless by some miracle we get KJH back from Milan on loan (highly unlikely). I don't like the idea of Suarez as a central striker as he's likely to take even more punishment than he currently does. Maybe a switch to a 4-4-2 is warranted. The other thought that I've had since late last season is to move Siem de Jong up front and see what he can do. He's got a good shot and may be a decent pairing if they go with two up front (but I'm just an arm chair manager).

Pantelic expects to be back at the end of this week, by the way. Injury is not as bad as it seemed.

The Groningen friendly will be played tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon @ 3:30PM local time (4:30PM CET) at the ground of Amendoeira Sportsclub in Alcantarilha. There's an interview on the FC Groningen website (HERE) with Daley Blind, who will play his first (unofficial) game for the 'Pride of the North' against his former club (and his old man, for that matter).

1-1 v Groningen Suarez scored . Eriksen played second half and so did Lindgren . Other than that it was our strongest available team.
