To be played somewhere in the Algarve, South-Portugal. Don't know exactly where.
Ajax will leave for Portugal on January 5th. This kickabout against Stuttgart is as yet the only confirmed friendly during the training camp, and also the first game of competitive football in 2009.
Kick-off time: 15.00 (local time or CET, I don't know).
Happy New Year everybody!

The match will be played in Ferreiras, a tiny place near Albufeira in the Algarve.
According to AjaxInside.nl the game will be played at the Estádio de Mata Real. but that can impossibly be true: that ground is in North Portugal and it's the home of Paços de Ferreira FC.
Ajax are playing in Ferreiras (ending with s) in the deep south of the country. I do not know the name of the stadium.
According to the VfB Stuttgart website the game will be played in Portimão, which makes much more sense, as it's in the Algarve, near Albufeira and Ferreiras.

The stadium of Ferreiras is Estádio da Nora, but I don't know if it will be played there. I put it on my website with a "?".

squad of 23 .Sergio Padt is 3rd goalie and Alderweireld now in the squad.
Easier to say who is not going. Gentenaar, Kennedy Rommedahl and Martina with the only injured being Aissati, Van der Heijden and Donald.
I am not sure whether Gentenaar has an injury or not but he is clearly not rated .

Gentenaar is injured according to Ajax.nl. But they don't say wether it's a real injury or a "diplomatic injury".

You got it right. Ajax.nl just confirmed it. Estádio da Nora, home of FC Ferreiras.
They arrived in Portugal yesterday evening.

Stuttgart just made it 1-2, apparently. No names of goalscorers.
Is that the one you're watching, Ian?

Here's a quick translation of the little blurb that just popped up on Ajax Netwerk...
Ajax have lost their first match of 2009, succumbing to VfB Stuttgart in a friendly in Portugal: 2-3. The half-time score was 1-3. Goalscorers for Ajax were Suárez (shot from Cvitanich, touched by the Uruguayan) and Cvitanich (header). Cvitanich's header, just before the final whistle, was disallowed. Luis Suárez wore the captain's armband in the first half, in default of Stekelenburg, Lindgren and Vermaelen. Stekelenburg became Ajax's captain when he was brought on in the second half for his return to action after injury.
Ajax starting line-up: Vermeer; Silva, Oleguer, Aldeirwereld, Schilder; Gabri, Enoh, Emanuelson; Suarez, Cvitanich, Sulejmani.
Maarten Stekelenburg replaced Vermeer (46'). Any more subs...? I do not know at this point.

Nah, who cares? Friendly in the sun, after a week's training camp... I wouldn't jump to conclusions.

Don't think the Stuttgart fans are too bothered either. I just had a browse of their fans forum (
www.soccer-fans.de/vfb-stuttgart/) handily translated by Google and couldn't find any mention of the game.
Anyway, the NEC game next week is live on Setanta so who cares about this one.
