Agree a draw was a good result after that aweful 1st half and we could have come away with 3 points.
Re: 18 OCT 2014 FC Twente-Ajax Match Day 9
Much better in the second half and Twente did end up running out of steam. We had a good shot at the three points. But we're in trouble if Serero's out long-term. He's been our most important player this season. Van Basten, it's up to you whether that makes you sad ;)
I haven't been blown away by Andersen so far but he did better today and we need him to step up in a big way if he has to cover for Serero.

I think Serero is better as a deep player where he sees things in front of him. He is to prone to pass the ball back otherwise. We have so little depth that he will be missed if he is out long
Appie Nouri will forever be remembered for his grace and humanity on and off the pitch!

If serero is out for longer time, i hope andersen will play in his position. i'm more than glad to take that risk

My point above is that Serero is just not good up front so you and I are in violent agreement on this point.Van basten schreef:If serero is out for longer time, i hope andersen will play in his position. i'm more than glad to take that risk

Instead we're talking about a goal keeper a guy that never scores a goal can't be your most important player.
Serero doesn't ever give the endpass / assist which makes someone else score either...

Re: 18 OCT 2014 FC Twente-Ajax Match Day 9
Serero works hard and I respect that, but I agree that he doesn't contribute enough to our attacking game. Even if we get a chance to counter it usually dries up with Serero who can't make a move forward. And defensively he has physical limitations. His not a guy who wins loose balls in midfield. So, what is he really good for?
Zimling, Andersen, Viergever and Schöne all have more to offer. Zimling and Viergever are physically stronger and don't pale in comparison with their ball handling either, Andersen has the ability to rush forward with the ball and at least he has an idea how to give that final pass. And we all know what Schöne can do. I really think we can do without Serero and who knows, this could even improve our game.

OK so maybe you'd choose Veltman or Schöne as being more important, and he's not lightening fast moving the ball, but IMHO Serero is the engine room and anchor of our midfield in attack and defense. If you say he has bad ball handling and you don't think he breaks up opponents' attacks then we have to be talking about different players... because to me he's the only one in our midfield who can do both of those things well
I agree he doesn't contribute to scoring either with goals or assists but that's not his role in the team. These workmanlike players don't really get a lot of recognition but you miss 'em when they're gone!

Seems to be 2 sides of opinion on Serero and I would have to say I agree with King Litti
Anyway good to have a debate and at least we can disagree without slagging each other off. After all we are all pals from around the world united in our love for this club. Fans will always look at players differently.
After 9 games I think overall we are struggling a bit but we are only 4 points off PSV and we don't usually start to get consistant until after the winter break.
At least these last 2 games playing deeper he looks better but the sooner we spend money on a decent defensive midfielder the better.King Litti schreef:Serero works hard and I respect that, but I agree that he doesn't contribute enough to our attacking game. Ha, yeah, and I realise I could be wrong. I defended Siem too and had to agree in the end that he wasn't up to much. Anyway, I'm not saying Serero is our new Edgar Davids (or even a new Christian Poulsen!) but he's a solid performer in an underperforming squad.

Re: 18 OCT 2014 FC Twente-Ajax Match Day 9
That's true. I guess that's why FdB agrees with you that he should be in the starting line up. Just pains me to think that Serero is an obvious choice for our midfield. We should have more quality than that.Tom_ schreef: he's a solid performer in an underperforming squad.
Not happy about anyones injury, but would be interesting to see how our midfield would perform without him cause let's face it, something is missing. Don't we just have the quality or is it something else? Is it that the type of players we have, don't really go along with the tactics and formations? Don't know. Just have felt like Serero is not the right piece in our midfield puzzle, but I could be wrong.
anyway, if Serero is out, this is what I would like to see:
Kishna Siggy/Milik El Ghazi
Anderson Viergever/Zimling Schöne
