Interesting, I wonder if de Boer had a sit down candid talk with him and told him that he wasn't ready? I think he can be a world class right back but there are aspects of his game that need improvement. All that being said, the cross he whipped in to de Jong for the first goal will be an Ajax memory we will all cherish!!! Regarding Steks, I only see ManU as the one club that really needs a keeper (in terms of clubs playing CL football). Why in heck would he want to go to Schalke and maybe play in the EL (if they win the German Cup). I think Vertonghen is gone and his desirability has significantly increased this season. I can see Barca interested in him given Puyols is almost finished and they really don't have any alternatives in the central defense. What a dynamite coupling that would be with Piquet. Two great ball handlers in the center.

In the end, I think you have to put this down to the man on the touch line.

Back on Dec. 4, you were in 4th place after a poor draw with Nijmegen. Two days later your manager quit. Your best player (and apparently one of the best in the world based on current form) was sold on in the transfer window. Your number one keeper broke his thumb heading into the stretch run.

And after all that, you come thru as...champions. Frank took lemons and made sweet, sweet lemonade.

A few other thoughts:

1. A tip of the hat to Kenneth Vermeer. Six league appearances. Six wins.

2. I think you will now regularly see teams drop their silverware from the bus.

Yep, I'm gonna enjoy this for at least a week.

I forgot to say last night that I thought it was one of our best games in the second half of the season. Twente were playing the same pressing game on our midfield to make passing difficult but we were much more patient hanging onto the ball and finding our way through and occasionally playing that diagonal Vertonghen to Sulejmani pass.

Apart from a panicked 10 or 15 minutes in the second half we always looked the better team. Highlights for me were Jan in defence and de Jong making space (like he always does) for Eriksen, Ebecilio and Sulejmani to run through.

V d Wiel may have been disappointing this season, but that cross on the first goal was absolutely sublime.

Just watching the Museumplein celebrations on AT5 TV (www.at5.nl) right now. I've seen them loads of times now but still haven't tired. Really wish I was there, I miss Amsterdam but the internet is a wonderful thing for curing some of that.
