Re: 26 Apr 2009: Ajax - AZ
As I did not see the match just caught up with highlights on Ajax Tv. There certainly was alot of chances.
From what I could see of their goal Oleguer was too slow, not for the first time this season .
Do I take it that 2nd place will be decided on goal difference if we are level on points?? A win next week is a must as I see Twente beating Az . My gut feeling is that we will draw v Twente and finish 1 point behind but then I am a born pessimist.

Re: 26 Apr 2009: Ajax - AZ
Looked it up goal difference if sides level. Ajax +36 Twente +29 so we would be ok
Just to really confuse if we draw both games and Twente lose v AZ we both are on 67 points but we would be 2nd on goal difference. However PSV are +35 and if they were to win their 2 games , NEC and Willem, they would be on 67 points and would have a better goal difference than us and would be 2nd.
Ajax please just win both games .

I'll add the extra ditto to this as well. At least Marco was being candid following the match yesterday saying that Ajax controls its own destiny. It's also interesting to see the advertisement for the new away shirt. First man in the group is Suarez. I wonder if this means he plans to stay for one more season?? Watching Eurogoals tonight it showed Suarez missing the pen and showed him as Suarez (Inter)!!!
The AZ goal was shown several times Oleguer was simply too slow.

I'd rather say that Lens was too fast... I don't expect any of our defenders to be faster than lightning quick attackers of counter teams.
That Ajax couldn't find a solution against such a team in the first half is another story (well, a long, complex and sad story).

Re: 26 Apr 2009: Ajax - AZ
Setanta showed the whole game at 22.00hrs on Sunday evening so I recorded it and watched most of the game again last night.
Lens is indeed very very fast, not sure Oleguer can be blamed too much but the thing that they talked about and I hadn't spotted is that Luis only needed one goal to go joint top with El Hamdoui (Sp?) of the Eredivisie scoring table. EH was suspended but certainly there/watching and I wonder if that "explains" Luis's arrogant/cheeky chip for the penalty that he missed.
The NZ commentator that Setanta were using was terrible at pronouncing names btw - "Al-der-van-der-wheeled" was the worst of about four pronunciations of Toby's name and that was just one player!

Please take advantage of FCT's generosity in dropping points. And, as other have said...win the next two matches.

Ha! Don't get me started on the moron who was on ESPN360! I have to shamefully report that he was Australian. He should've been commentating AFL. "That was a great kick!" I don't think he was even watching the same game as me... it must've been last year's Ajax - AZ. What the fuck was he calling Suárez? Louie Louah or something?SE6Ajacied schreef:The NZ commentator that Setanta were using was terrible at pronouncing names btw - "Al-der-van-der-wheeled" was the worst of about four pronunciations of Toby's name and that was just one player!
At least he had a red hot go at pronunciations though. He constantly (at least ten times) referred to van Gaal as "Supercoachvanhaal"; shockingly reminiscent of what the Australian media called Venables (Englishsupercoachterryvenables) when he was national coach for a couple of years.
Whew... need to calm down

He's a regular on the Ajax ESPN broadcasts. Louie=Louie is the great garage rock & roll song from 1960 or there abouts (forget the exact year).

I actually like the guy. Compared to the jokes we have out here (see also: Barboa, Marcello) he's ok. And he sounds kind of Kiwi to me. Are you sure he's Australian?Chugger schreef:Ha! Although, truth be told, the best ESPN360 games are the ones without commentary.

As long as Tommy Smyth with a 'y' isn't commentating all is OK.

Yep, that's him. I actually assumed that he was a Kiwi due to his terrible pronunciation of AZ's (Australian) keeper Didulica. I thought he couldn't be from Oz if he couldn't get even that one right.Chugger schreef:

He's been on a few times for games that aren't shown live (Twente away for example) but they never give his name (I wonder why

Good game anyway.

That Aussie commentator on Setanta2 is awful. I even switch the volume off and listen to the dutch radio commentry instead! Even though I only know a few words it beats listening to him. Mind you, Frank Stapleton is hardly exciting either.
As for Sundays game, should really have won, but the woodwork was against us. All to play for now. Must win next 2.
