24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
After the disappointment against Liverpool, Ajax only have a couple of days to get ready for VVV. It is a Saturday afternoon match that will give them some extra hours to get ready for the trip to Bergamo to take on Atalanta. Kudus is scheduled for a scan today but told his mother that the knee injury is not too bad. No word yet on Antony.
EDIT: Kudus tore a meniscus in this right knee yesterday and is out until winter break.

Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
I have a bad feeling Alvarez will play along side Gravenberch and Klaassen, I would prefer to put Ekkelenkamp on as the number ten, Gravenberch as 8 and Klaassen as 6. Up front I would play the same, except Antony replacing Neres on the right.
Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6

Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
Wow, maybe 90% of the game was in the VVV half of the pitch. Ajax were good in tight spaces and this could have been much worse for the home team.

Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
That looked like a training match . Like to see Taylor come on and maybe Martinez to give Blind a rest.
Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
4-0 at HT!! Great props to ETH for rotating the squad today!
Klaiber isn't as bad as all of us had thought him to be.
Now Promes on for Tadic & MArtinez for Nico. Does ETH have a new advisor?

8-0 and more than 30 minutes left to play

Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
Don't like it - call me superstitious, but when a team scores so many goals so easily, it makes me worry that they use up all their allotted goas and there won't be any left for the next game. Hope I'm wrong but I've got that feeling - we'll see come the Atlanta game.
Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
went to the bathroom and 5 minutes later it’s 11-0

Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
Speechless almost ,never seen a game of football with 13 scored! I think Young Ajax would have given us a tougher game.
Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
Ajax set a record for goals scored in the Eredivisie downing 10 man VVV 13-0. In 1972, Cruyff, Neeskens, and the others put 12 into the net against Vitesse. Ajax dominated the match from the outset and picked apart the bunkered down VVV defense easily notching a 4-0 halftime lead. The karate kick sending off is what we see all the time in the Dutch league and when Ajax went a man up the game was over. Some solid play in tight spaces and well taken goals particularly by Traore. VVV did not have a shot on goal.
Player Ratings:
Onana (5) - had nothing to do and had poor mis-kick that gifted the ball on the goal line
Tagliafico (7) - good game coming off at the half
Blind (7.5) - nobody from VVV picked him up when he brought the ball forward and he was able to open the defense up with good passing
Schuurs (7) - had no defending to do and like Blind moved the ball up in the middle when it was open
Klaiber (7.5) - solid game in place of Mazraoui
Klaassen (7.5) - another excellent game with good ball control and passing
Gravenberch (7.5) - solid
Ekkelenkamp (7.5) - two nice goals and almost a third
Tadic (7) - very good in tight spaces today
Traore (8) - as a #9 you need to finish when the opportunity comes and that he did
Antony (7.5) - too bad he missed the Liverpool match but he made up for it today
Martinez (7) - on for Tagliafico and nice to see him get a goal
Promes (6.5) - some nice passing coming in for Tadic but the two shots he had were not on frame
Huntelaar (6) - two goals on the day but didn't have many other touches
Labyad (NR) - on late and had some nice touches
Alvarez (NR) - on for Blind and only had a touch or two
Off to Bergamo for a Tuesday match against Atalanta in the Champions League. the Italian team dropped their home match against Sampdoria this afternoon.

Record league score ,12-1 v Vitesse in 1972 with Cruijff playing was the previous.
Only 2 minor moans ,with 9 goals a red card and loads of subs no extra time ,should have been 5 mins at least. Also why not stick Taylor on.
Wonderful day to be an Ajax fan

Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
Wow speechless. Saw the entire game and felt terrible for VVV after a point. We set the record twice today by breaking the earlier record of 12-1 set in 1972 by Ajax against Vitesse.
Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
Amazing match from both sides. Relentless from Ajax, and as for VVV... I have never seen a professional team give up like that.
Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
Made the headlines over here, skysports news showed all the goals.
Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
What was so weird for me is how easily Ajax picked the bunker down defense apart. In the past, the team has had troubles here. I think VVV made a big mistake by only have one striker up top as this meant Schuurs or Blind could carry the ball up deep into the attacking half.

Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
Well.. the Eredivisie is professional, but since the bigger leagues purchased all the real talents small teams like VVV are made up out of youngsters and some very mediocre oldies. If Ajax wants to push like this every game, there are a couple of more teams that will give up at least 10 goals.
In the Netherlands we want to play technical and sopisticated football, but sometimes you have to work hard and that's what's lacking. There is a reason why NL dropped so low on the UEFA coefficients ladder.
Lower teams in Belgium or Portugal at least put up a fight.

Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
Seems all the ex players in Holland think our win was a disaster for Dutch football. Why! I am unhappy the ref did not add about 8 mins of extra time so we could have won 15-0.KJH was still hungry for a 3rd.
Apart from their goalie the rest of their team don't deserve to be paid. They did not defend and just stood and watched.I sat watching that 2nd half and could not believe what I was watching. My wife said are they bottom and I said no 10th!!
VVV just gave up and we punished them severely. Our Young Ajax team, average age 18,would never have let in 13 against our 1st team.

Re: 24 OCT 2020; VVV - Ajax; Match Day 6
Do not agree with these opinions. A lot of people in Holland really like to talk down the Dutch league and all performances of Eredivisie teams but meanwhile Napoli even gets tricked in a home defeat against AZ when AZ misses 13 players because of corona.
The 0-13 was news all over the world, in every country with a Champions League preview the fact that Ajax scored 13 goals will be mentioned.
When Bayern beats Schalke 8-0, rapes FC Barcelona with 8-2, when Liverpool loses 7-2 against Aston Villa and Man U has to take a 1-6 home defeat, a 0-13 against VVV Venlo is not even that strange.
Ok, it is very unusual that a team scores over 10, but Ajax is a very unusual club.
In my opinion Juventus playing 0-0 at home at Hellas Verona is a bigger failure than VVV Venlo losing with very high numbers when they play with 10 for a long time and their opponent is Ajax.
