Our first half display was the best display of football by us in years.

Then comes the mistake by right back and our opponent fails to create good chances for the rest of the game.

What a group of HEROES! Can't believe how much fortitude this team showed playing with 10 men. Even though it was van Rhijn's weak back pass that conceded the penalty there were two others in the first half that could have had the same result. Everyone on this team played with confidence and calm and I'm proud to be a fan. Milan won easily 3-0 against Celtic so we need to beat them in two weeks to go into the knockout round.

Player Ratings (and I grant you this is difficult)

Cillessen (7.5) - had little to do in the first half but showed some good courage going after things in the box, kicking was OK
Boilesen (7.5) - was having a great game until injured
Moisander (8) - fantastic
Veltman (7) - not much he could do but drag Neymar down
van Rhijn (5) - except for the back pass he had a good game
Blind (9) - fantastic in the first half, boss of the midfield and quality did not drop off when he had to move back to fullback
Serero (7.5) - 3 or 4 poor passes but this was his best match
Klaassen (7.5) - really good and his cheeky play in extra time to get the corner off Pique was outstanding
Fischer (8) - all over the field and two strong shots on target, played exceptionally well when we went a man down
Hoesen (7.5) - well taken goal and worked hard until tiring
Schöne (7.5) - strong match on the right side and delivered some good free kicks
Poulsen (7.5) - really solid as usual
Denswil (7.5) - no mistakes and defended well
Duarte (7) - not on long but solid play

We can all knock back a couple of beers tonight!!

What a performance great 1st half then V Rhijn's cock up.Thought it was outside the box so did the sky guys. After that we were just superb and everyone played their part. Very stressful watching but I am very proud of our lads tonight .

We were the original masters and because of Cruyff and the greatness of this club Barca became Ajax's apprentices . Tonight we were the masters again mega proud of our club.

Just saw Boilesen injured his hamstring but it was the other one that he had all the problems with .Hope its not too serious
and thank goodness it was not the troublesome hamstring which kept him out for over 18 months.

Pretty happy with the play in the first half, who knows, we might've kept it up if it had been 11 vs. 11 in the second. Veltman's foul may have been just outside the box, and he would've been hoping so when he made the tackle, but it was very close either way and you can understand the ref's decision. On top of the good football in the first half we showed some real backbone to hang on in the second when I honestly thought we were going to crumble.

Here we are in the last round still with our destiny in our own hands. The match in Milan will not be easy, but Celtic are eliminated so if we lose we're still in the UEFA Cup.

Silly defensive errors and bad refereeing decision have cost us automatic qualification to the next round, but hey we still have a shot and I would have signed up for that when the draw was announced.

Horrible news. De Telegraaf and NOS both say "seriously injured" so for now let's keep our fingers crossed that he recovers.

The spectators in Amsterdam Arena got shocked and were quiet / silent after this terrible incident... three minutes later Ajax scored 2-0.
