It's been many years since I saw so little of Ajax's pre-season campaign. I basically missed the whole thing. I was working on my new book, we were waiting for my son to be born (and he was, on 26 July), I just didn't really care.

But I have to say: I really look forward to a fix of footie at the ArenA on Sunday. Roll on Sunday!

(This doesn't necessarily mean I'm optimistic, by the way).

Excited about the new season. Interesting to see what kind of a defencive line up will De Boer come up with. Who will play with Toby? Is there an obvious choise? Is it Denswil? Or will they give Blind another chance? I hope not.

I've been impressend with van Rhijns development. He's tall, quite physical but still fast and looks pretty comfortable with the ball. Could he play as a CB.? I mean we still have van der Wiel to play on the right side at least for now. Or could Dijks play with Toby? He also seems promising. With his height, he should do well with crosses.

Hope we can start the season with a win and a solid performance.

FdB said that Eriksen, Sulejmani and Boerrigter will not be playing on Sunday but that Van der Wiel is set to go 90 minutes. I don't know whether the latter statement is good or bad for the club.

Selectie voor duel met AZ

Ajax speelt zondagmiddag de eerste competitiewedstrijd tegen AZ. De Noord-Hollandse derby begint om 16:30 uur in de ArenA. Frank de Boer heeft voor dit duel achttien spelers geselecteerd. Tobias Sana maakt zijn debuut in de wedstrijdselectie.

Gregory van der Wiel zit weer bij de selectie. De Boer vertelde tijdens de persconferentie vrijdag dat de rechtsback fit genoeg is om negentig minuten te spelen. Christian Eriksen, die later aansloot bij het eerste, is er niet bij. Miralem Sulejmani (knie) en Derk Boerrigter (rug) missen ook de Noord-Hollandse derby. Zij spelen maandag met Jong Ajax.

1-0...good, comfortable first half.....not really tested, yet, but let's wait and see!!!

Nice to see us playing going forward and stretching them again and again instead of pitty patting. This will wear them down and we should pick up another goal (at least) in the second half.

Very solid first half. I am really impressed by how well we are pressing in the midfield, something that was absent last year. Both wing players are staying wide and Blind is coming up a lot as AZ are leaving that flank undefended. We have not been challenged on defense yet this match because of this. The back four are staying up high which FdB likes and we have seen 3 off sides calls because of this. Nothing for Vermeer to do yet. Anita's chance was difficult and it was always going to be hard to beat a tall keeper like Alvarado with a chip that close in. van Rhijn is doing well in Vertonghen's spot and maybe this is where he's going to play as long as Greg is still in the starting 11. If the team can keep up this pressure they should do OK.

OK, looking good so far. Lets just hope we can keep this up. Schöne looks good from what I've seen so far.
