I don't know much about this guy, except that he's from Cameroon, signed a contract at Ajax quite recently and that Marco van Basten just added him to the squad for tomorrow's Classic.

Van Basten seems to really rate the bloke. When he first signed, Van Basten said something like: "He is very close to the first team already."

Maybe Van Basten will introduce him to us tomorrow, at De Kuip...

A blurb I read about the young man indicated that he was a Defensive midfielder. If that's the case, should be an interesting competition for playing time with Gabri ( if he's ever fit ) and Sno.

AD reported yesterday that he was considered inside the club as a "type Makélélé". That's interesting.

If he's only half that good, that would be great...

Where was he playing prior to coming to Amsterdam? Was he signed straight out of Cameroon?

He played at Ajax Cape Town. Before signing at Ajax Amsterdam, he was tested at an Israelian team and at Portsmouth. Both liked him, but Portsmouth did not sign him, as they did not expect to get the admission to let him play by the FA.

I liked this guy, by the way. Great tackler.

Would like to see him from the start on Thursday!

I was impressed with him when he came on too. He seemed very very quick and was great at closing down defenders before they could move into space with the ball. It was a bit hard to tell if he was that much quicker, or it just looked that way coming in to face players who had already been playing 75 minutes. A nice unexpected surprise though, and I hope he can continue to contribute.

It is an encouraging sign that we are finding diamonds in the rough as opposed to overpaying for other teams' players.

MRI scan showed a little tear in the groin/tissue.

He's out for four, possibly six weeks...

this is not good with all the UEFA matches coming up. We have gone through the same problems with my home club here in Washington DC. It seems that 1/2 the team is recovering from injuries at any given point in time. I hope that this injury curse is over!

Ajax want to start talks with Enoh a.s.a.p. His current contract will expire in the summer of 2010 and Ajax want to improve and extend it.

Good news. Offer him a good deal and pay him well. I think Enoh is a fantastic player. Potentially world class, but for that he will have to make steps forward and score eight goals per season.

I really like him, if only because he knows how to foul. He's tough and he can kick someone if he has to. Which is good.

He's been the player who has surprised me the most, in a good way, this year. I'm glad we're looking to extend his contract as I think he's a good player and is getting better. He has the physical abilities and is quick, if a bit reckless now, but also has plays with heart, which a lot in this squad don't.

I find it really impressive the way he barely ever loses the ball. He always seems to be able to beat his man in midfield and make a useful pass. On the weekend, he was involved in at least two of the three goals, and had a part in creating a few of the other chances as well.

Congrats to Enoh for making his début for Cameroon! :smile-ajax.gif:

He played the full 90 minutes against Morocco (World Cup qualifier). Final score: 0-0.

I see his contract has not been extended but Ajax now intend to talk. He has a contract to June 2010
but Ajax have a2 year option to extend so I quess they are not under pressure but they need to put him on a long term deal.

Right. Eyong Enoh just crashed out of the Africa Cup with Cameroon (3-1 defeat against Egypt in the quarters), so he can get his a**e on a plane and fly back to Amsterdam. Back in time for Sunday.
