I watched the highlights (over here) and I have to say that he was very unfortunate...
The first yellow card: yes, he tapped the ball into the net with his hand, but was it a deliberate hand ball...? He was pushed in the back. Not sure he really wanted to do a 'Hand of God'...
Second foul: Pothuizen actually admitted that he went down easily. Doesn't look like a real foul from behind to me...
All in all, the sending off was a bit harsh, if you ask me.
On the other hand: he did pull his opponent's shirt shortly after having picked up his first yellow. That was definitely a yellow card, so he could have been sent off early. So maybe we shouldn't moan

I agree, Blom was very inconsistent in the way things were called. Unfortunately in games like that, Suarez doesn't really do us any favors and I think makes it harder for the ref to call a fair game.Cedric_AeF schreef:The first one is a real joke, the second one would be OK if Blom had been that harsh with the NEC players, who could commit some attempted murders without receiving any card.
But it's even better to win in those conditions.
Cvitanich should have been smarter and played smarter after picking up the first yellow (in what the 3rd minute). He has to take that into account in the way he's playing and I don't think he did.
I'm not sure either should have been yellows, but he has to realize that in a game like that it's likely that they will get called and to play according to that.

I've seen that first yellow card now, and yeah, he certainly didn't celebrate the goal or anything (it actually looked like he'd hurt his hand from his reaction - bit of a giveaway!). Having said that though, he got the card and have to agree that he was very silly to get a second one. I suppose he's till young though and that type of learning probably comes with more experience (though I'd have thought it was basic maths - 1 yellow plus 1 yellow = 2 yellows = a red card, I'd better be more careful here)Kowalczyk schreef:I watched the highlights (over here) and I have to say that he was very unfortunate...

K.Mr_Holte schreef:OK, so what do you all think about these pair?
Both cost alot of money, particularly Sulejmani, and both have so far failed to live up to expectation.
My own opinion? I think there is a good player in Sulejmani, maybe he just needs more time, but I think he may come good.
Unfortunatly I cannot say the same about Cvitanich....

Re: Darío Cvitanich
Totally disagree. Cvitanich has been pretty good when he hasn't been hurt. Problem is, he's been hurt a lot. But I think he's a pretty good player.Kowalczyk schreef:Re-posting...

Not sure if Sulejmani is really well-suited to the Ajax style of play, but he's young, so we should stick with him, imo.

Just checked VI.nl for last years stats. Cvitanich's season total of 9 goals in 18 league matches is proof of what aveslacker says. Micky had 8 in 27.

Re: Darío Cvitanich
I'll throw in my thoughts.
I was much more impressed with Cvitanich than Sulejmani last year. I think those goal stats help show why. Unfortunately Cvitanich was injured for a large portion of the year, and started off as Huntelaar's backup, so it really wasn't until the second half of the season that he got real opportunities.
Like most of us, I hope Sulejmani can turn things around this season and be more of the player he was at Heerenveen. I think Jol will help with that and hopefully keep him in a more natural position.

Re: Darío Cvitanich
I think it's a bit weird to compare the stats of a left winger and a striker...
The sure thing is that they both had a disappointing season and were not helped by their injuries.

Re: Darío Cvitanich
Okay folks, Dario has left the building.
Ajax just confirmed their deal with Mexican outfit CF Pachuca. Cvitanich will join Pachuca on loan for the remainder of the season, and Pachuca will pay 750,000 euros for that. Pachuca also have an option to buy Cvitanich at season's end, for 6 million U.S. dollars (some 3.8 million euros). If they decide not to buy him they will pay Ajax an extra 150,000 euros (on top of the loan fee of 750,000 euros).
Thanks Dario. Good luck in Mexico.

Re: Darío Cvitanich
Martin Jol doesn't seem to rate him at all, so this is - indeed - the best solution for everyone involved. I don't think we'll see him back at Ajax again. Jol doesn't want him - period.

Right then. He's been loaned out to Boca Juniors for the season.

Yes. I checked this and it's true.Wie kent Cees de Wolf nog schreef:No, it expires in the summer of 2013.
I am closing some player threads down at the moment, of players whose contracts have now officially expired (as per July 1st): Verhoeven, Ooijer etc. I will not close this thread down, because Cvitanich is still officially an Ajax player this season. However, please discuss his performances for Boca Juniors in the Ajax Players On Loan thread.
