Jeffrey Sarpong
About time this guy gets an individual thread!
He made his official Ajax-1 début in December, in the cup game at Eindhoven, and he made his Eredivisie début last Sunday at Feyenoord (as a sub).
Tomorrow night, against Willem II, Wesley Sneijder will be rested (hamstring injury) and it is generally expected that Sarpong will start for the first time.
Things are going fast for him at the moment: he's still an A junior and normally plays for Ajax A1. He has effectively skipped Young Ajax and jumped to the first squad at once.

I hope the pressure cooker of playing with such experienced players wont get the better of him. BTW someone once said that virtually all our youth players are dutch, but Sarpong, Anita and Yildrim are from Ghana, South Africa and Turkey, respectively. I know this isnt really important, but I think there is a chance that in the future they would prefer to play for their native colours rather then the dutch national team, despite the former two playing for Holland under 17's world cup. Just a thought......
I made the comment that nearly all our youth are shown as dutch but some like those mentioned are immigrants and could play for the countries of birth or parents birth.
These guys have all lived in Holland for a few years and as far as I am concerned are local players. They did not come to Holland as 16 year olds like Pienaar but have gone to school in Holland.
They may chose to play for other countries in time but until then they are local players in my eyes.

Just checked and I see Sarpong is shown as born in Amsterdam.
Anita born in Curacao, Yildrim Turkey and the only other members of either A1 or A2 born outside Holland are Weinrach who is Danish and Zijler born in Surinam. (There was an article on the official site recently about Yildrim and it did say he has lived in Holland for many years.)
I have obtained this info from Ajaxshowtime as they list all the Jong, A1, A2 B1 and B2 players.
Just wanted you to know where I got this info from.

it sucks to hear how Sarpong was treated in the last game with those monkey noises.
I found this article about Sarpong in the U-17 world cup here in Peru. It's very interesting cause it talks about his personality and what type of player he is. you can check it out here:

AT5 reports that Jeffrey Sarpong sustained a minor Achilles' injury in training. This has forced him to skip this week's match with Holland U-19. it is as yet uncertain whether Sarpong will be fit for Sunday's home game against Sparta.
Okay... If your first team players get injured, you play teenagers. But what if the teenagers start getting injured...? :nooo:

Appie, stay strong !
I thought Jeffrey Sarpong played decently v. RBC. I'm very sorry to hear about his injury. Fortunately, he's an up and coming talent and will have time to show what he can do. Achilles injuries for talent's playing in a side named after a Greek hero. Very ironic.Definitely not an injury to mess with.

She's an Iron Lady and I don't think I'll ever agree with her on anything, but to say that racial discrimination has become 'normal' and 'acceptable' because of her... That goes waaay too far, mate.

Re: Jeffrey Sarpong
well done Cedric you are on the ball 27 official first teamers left (Zeegelaar and Martina are both amongst the 27)
Sarpong will now get the chance to play some eredivisie footy and he may well come back a better player . We will see.
PS I am going away in the morning until Monday night so may not see any more postings until then so hope you all have a Happy New Year.

Re: Jeffrey Sarpong
Excellent . We will hopefully get a better idea of what Jeffrey Sarpong can do . With our mf sure to thin out in the closed season , Sarpong looks to be crossroads in his career. He either takes this chance , runs with it , improves, and re-enters the plans for Ajax or another club or gets cast aside and not renewed .
