Hi guys, firstly i wanted to say thanks for some of the ticket info posted on these boards which helped me get tickets for the Brondby game (24-8).As a Crystal Palace season ticket holder the chance to take my two kids to a Champions League game was one i couldnt turn down....they wont see one at Palace. After the game my kids, aged 12 & 8,had firmly established Ajax as their 2nd team & are already asking me when we can go back.I have no doubts we will be back again,& soon,so i will be keeping an eye on these boards from now on for various info. All the best for this season & i hope i will have reason to say hi again soon.

Welcome English Eagle.

You'll find there's another Palace/Ajax fan on the board...don't mind his sense of humour...... ;)

If you or your kids are interested in English language Ajax info in the future I recommend Ajax-USA.com.

Thought i'd post this off a Luton website as the Obodai subject has been locked.........

Luton Town have called off their attempts to sign Ajax midfielder Anthony Obodai.

The club were waiting on the result of a visa application for the Ghanaian after holding talks with the 23-year-old midfielder.

But negotiations have been halted after complications with the deal.

Luton boss Mike Newell said: "We've scrapped that now. We had one call from his agent and then from another person claiming to be his agent.

"His wife was also getting involved and we were told he had a domestic problem but that it would all be sorted out soon.

"I smelt a rat though - we can't be having someone's wife dictating what goes on at this club

Not another blooday Palace fan ;) . Welcome - I think the ".co.uk" contingent will be outnumbering anyone else (".nl" excepted) here soon. It's always good to have another Ajax fan onboard so good to "meet" you - perhaps we could start a petition and get Channel 5 to show an Eredivisie highlights programme - they do for the Argentinian football (yawn).

Hello! Hope you have a good time.

Didn't Channel 5 show Dutch highlights but in the middle of the morning?

They don't show a highlights show as such - just a complete re-run of one game which is normally Ajax, PSV or Fnerd. Would be great if they could do a proper highlights "match of the Day" show with all the games though.

Thanks for the welcome,im sure im a semi convert already although ive spent too many years watching Palace to convert completely.I have to say that Amsterdam has many advantages over Croydon though so converting my wife may be easier.

Welcome English Eagle. Are you by any chance related to Eddy the Eagle...? :D Good to have you on board.

Forgive me being so rude, but I'm going to close this thread down. Nothing personal, but since we have only two English-language zones we try to keep things a bit tidy here, by posting to existing threads as much as possible. It's sort of a houserule. You might want to read this (an announcement that we posted when we first built our little 'Ajax USA discussion pub' here on Ajax Talk):
http://www.ajaxtalk.nl/portal/viewtopic.php?t=4608

Basically, I hate forums where the thread-list looks like this:

- GREAT GAME!!!
- Was Babel's goal the goal of the season - or what??
- Obodai to Sparta
- Hello everyone, I'm new!
- Who should be our left winger now?
- Noooo... X'C
- WANTED: Ajax vs Arsenal tickets!!!
- Question

See what I mean? All of these threads are essentially about one tiny thing that will remain interesting for only one day. They will all stay short and 'die' after only a few replies. The forum will have no structure whatsoever, everyone will start new threads for everything and no-one will ever read older threads on page 2 of the threads-index. Forums with thread-lists like the one above are 'polluted', if you ask me - and not very attractive to get into.

So, what's the system over here then? We try to give our thread a 'general' topic and post to exisiting threads as much as possible. For example...

We have a Personal Introductions Thread for, er... personal introductions:
http://www.ajaxtalk.nl/portal/viewtopic.php?t=5653

For discussions about Crystal Palace and all things football but not Ajax-related, there's the General Football Discussion thread:
http://www.ajaxtalk.nl/portal/viewtopic.php?t=4422

We even have a special 'corner' for cheesy and/or terrible jokes, the Pathetic Joke Corner:
http://www.ajaxtalk.nl/portal/viewtopic.php?t=4344
(we don't have a special thread for good jokes... Read through the Pathetic Jokes thread and you'll find out soon enough why that hasn't been necessary so far... )

If you want to start a new thread for something: go ahead! You're absolutely free to do so. But please check if there's an existing thread on your subject (fair chance it will contain soms posts of interest!).

That's pretty much our 'system'. The downside of it: if you start a new thread just to say 'what a great goal last Sunday!', 'Hans Vonk is a sh*t goalkeeper!' or 'How can I get a ticket for Sunday's game?' it will be closed down and linked to a relevant existing thread.

The upsides of it: the threads of this forum (and not just the ones on the front page) are almost always 'on-topic' and they have a very high 'relevant information density', if you know what I mean. Give it a try and you'll find that it works quite well.

Ah well... Thanks for your reading all of this...
