We didn't have a thread for this bloke yet, so here it is.

Let me start it by telling you that UEFA.com published a nice profile/interview type article on him:

His break from Ajax wasn't too long... Armenia didn't survive the group stage at the European Championships for U-19 teams in Northern Ireland. Manucharyan and his mates lost the game that they had to win in order to have a serious chance: 2-0 against Norway.

After that they were up against England and France. They surprisingly notched a draw against England (1-1) and could still hope for a miracle. A win over France would have seen them through. Their draw against England, by the way, was the first ever point an Armenian national team ever grabbed at an official international UEFA tournament.

Against France in the last game Armenia played surprisingly well and they had three or four major chances, but they lost 1-0 and crashed out. Manucharyan will return to Ajax immediately.

Well he limped off the field after 17 minutes of play against the netherlands... any news on the degree of the injury ?

Blind was interviewed on TV last night (in Studio Voetbal) and he said it's nothing too serious. Abotut seven days' rest should be enough, he said.

No worries. He played for only fifteen minutes against Holland, but he did alright.

He's made his Eredivisie début and his Champions League début for Ajax. Tomorrow, at Sparta Rotterdam, he will almost certainly be in the starting line-up for the first time.

What the hell is going on with this guy...?

The one time I've seen him play from the start (at Sparta Rotterdam) he was my Man of the Match. Possibly the best left wing solution we've seen so far. Then he got injured and never returned to the team.

Still injured...? I don't have a clue, to be honest.

Yeah, it's interesting thing... But Blind did exactly the same with our strikers (Anastasiou had a good game and next match he started on a bench, Charisteas- the same etc.). I don't understand this inconsistency... Well, I haven't seen so much 'live' games, and I also can't see Ajax on trainings, so I shouldn't say that is it Blind's fault... Back to Manucharyan- maybe Blind thinks that he is not good enough to be first player in every game? Maybe his injury was so bad, that he is not in optimal form yet?

This kid has a lot of talent but it looks like he's made out of glass. To injury prone(if his current situatiion is actually true).

And with Lindenbergh... (couple of fantastic games, then a suspension... and out of the picture he was). That's really the only thing Blind is doing wrong so far, if you ask me. I'm a bit disappointed with that. I thought Blind would be more consistent/persistent than that.

Yet, I still say... (see signature).

I have a lot of faith in blind too, but it really is very strange. In some games Ajax played at a real high level. In those games Sneijder played as a '10' with Lindenbergh and Galasek behind him. Since the suspension of Lindenbergh Blind didn't play this way anymore. We hardly reached the level of the beginning of the season. Why on earth doen't Blind go back to playing with that midfield (maybe with Maduro in Galasek's place)?

It's actually quite normal for players from lower level leagues to struggle for fitness when they first arrive at Ajax. The training is much more intense at Ajax than Manucharyan would have been used to, for this reason Ajax don't expect much from their signings for the first twelve months.

Next season wil be the acid test, he has a reputation for being an absolute assassin in front of goal, we could certainly use those qualities now.

I've seen pictures lately of Manucharyan training with the team. Does anyone know anything about a possible Manucharyan return?. Personally I'm really anxious to see this guy but I think he should continue doing an agressive physical training program so that he can be fit enough to play an entire game in top level competition.
If this guy scores so many goals, imagine him next season with Huntelaar up front, man they would do magic in the attack :eusa_dance:

I know that he played for Young Ajax yesterday! One half as a number 10.

He's close to a return!

Manucharyan had surgery on his knee today but it seems he will be fit for the start of next season. Man this kid is made out of glass

Manucharyan has put in some steady performances in pre-season and now looks strong enough to compete for a first team place.

When he first signed, he was not physically ready for the league. He had to stop some of the training in his first preseason training last year because of exhaustion.

Football in Armenia is not as fast paced as it is in the Eredivisie.

He now looks physically bigger and stronger.

Im a little surprised that he did not play in the Champions League against FCK, but he still has a future ahead of him, even though he is not playing in his natural position as striker, he has done well in the left wing position.

Edgar is a great player. I think that Ajax is bringing him slowly this season to try to prevent him getting injured again. If he stays fit then he could easily become first pick for the number 11 position. This could even happen quickly with Mitea being injured and Perez still looking for his best form.

I thought he played well in the Amsterdam tournament. He was the only Ajax winger that was willing to take his man on and could beat him. Crossing needs work, though.

Yeah he needs to improve crossing, but he is gelling into that position very well.

I've heard Lyon are interested in Manucharyan.

It may be a reason why he didn't play the last two Ajax games.

I doubt they would make a move for him though, so early in his Ajax career.
