Good news: not only Young Ajax will play in the Amstel Cup next season (because they're the reserves champions of Holland) but the Ajax Saturday-1 amateurs will also be there again. They qualified for the 'big' Amstel Cup by winning the district cup in their district. Check the news report on Ajax USA!

This thread is the place for discussions about Young Ajax and Ajax Saturday-1 in the Amstel Cup! First round in early August!

(Of course, there will be special threads for the first team's Amstel Cup fixtures in the Match Of The Day Zone).

Gatorade Cup

Young Ajax won their game in the first round of the Amstel Cup and will advance to the second round of the... Gatorade Cup!

Yes, ladies and gentleman, the name of the Dutch cup competition will change tomorrow, Tuesday 16 August. Amstel Beer have been the sponsor of the trophy since 1995, but they also sponsor the Eredivisie now and in order to avoid confusion they will no longer sponsor the Dutch cup. A new sponsor was found by the KNVB in no time: Gatorade energy sports drinks.

Right... The Gatorade Cup.

What a shit name...

Right... The Gatorade Cup.

Wow, that's even more naff than the 'Coca-Cola Cup' aka The English Football League Cup from a few years back....and deliberately double naff as well, I think Gatorade is owned by Coke so NL could have had a CC Cup too :D

Young Ajax vs Cambuur Leeuwarden will be played on Tuesday 20 September, kick-off time t.b.a.

Also: Heracles Almelo, De Graafschap and Young PSV ( X'D ) have all been thrown out of the cup for fielding a non-eligible player. How daft can you be?

Their first round opponents will appear in the second round instead.

Young Ajax vs Cambuur Leeuwarden (2nd round fixture) will be played on Tuesday 20 September, kick-off 20:00 CET at the Amsterdam ArenA (not at De Toekomst, unfortunately!).

I'll be there - for sure.

The next Ajax game is actually not Ajax vs ADO Den Haag on Wednesday, but Young Ajax vs Cambuur Leeuwarden in the second round of the Amstel... errr, Gatorade Cup on Tuesday evening, kick-off 20:00 at the Amsterdam ArenA (not De Toekomst!).

Tickets will be for sale at the ArenA before the game. 5 euros for sections 120 and 121 (that's the main stand). Match report will appear on Ajax USA a few hours after the game.

Young Ajax - Cambuur Leeuwarden: 3-1 !!

Read all about the hilarious but pretty bizarre goals we saw at the Amsterdam ArenA yesterday night...

http://www.ajax-usa.com/news/2005-2006/ ... -game.html

So, now we have strikers in the first team who are desperately trying to score but just can't... and meanwhile, in Young Ajax, we have players who score even when they try not to...

I posted the memorable excerpt from Menno's match report to a U.S. soccer list-serv, and some guy from ESPN wrote back to ask whether there was any video available of the event. :-)

So, does anybody know whether there might be video exerpt available? Were there cameras at the game?

Ajaxfans.de always has the goals online.

Maybe ultasuid but they are always later.

FIFA: Law 15 – The Throw-in: "A goal cannot be scored directly from a throw-in."

How was the goal allowed to stand? Was the throw-in to an Ajax player who then booted it toward the keeper, or did the keeper actually get a touch on the throw-in, or... ?

The ball was shot at the keeper of Cambuur after the throw-in. But the keeper was standing a little in front of the goal, the ball was a little too hard (and high) and disappeared in the goal.

Ajax.nl has published the ticketing info for Young Ajax vs AGOVV Apeldoorn (25 October, 20:00 CET). It appears that the game will be played at the Amsterdam ArenA, just like the Cambuur fixture. Tickets are 6 euros and can be bought at the ArenA box offices before the game. A Club Card will not be required.

I am not at the game (tired, crap weather...), but trying to follow it at home. The score after 90 minutes of football at the Amsterdam ArenA was 0-0. AGOVV midfielde Ahmet Kilic was sent off in the 83rd minutes. Eleven Young Ajax are now playing ten AGOVV in extra time...

I guess we're halfway the second half of extra time by now... Still 0-0.

Goal for Young Ajax!!

Scored by (old) Olaf Lindenbergh in the 116th minute, four minutes before the end!!

That's awesome!

How many old players joined this team? I must admit that I dont like it if too many A-players play in Young Ajax (when they play in the Gay-Torade Cup). I removes the glance of every victory.

Does anybody know the line up?

Vonk, Vermaelen, Heitinga, Escude (utter crap btw!), Lindenbergh, Boukhari (lowsy too) and Rosenberg (shouldn't be a part of any Ajax squad, but he is) all started and played the full 120 mins.

Best man on the pitch was AGOVV defender Van Boxtel.

That is ALOT of A-squad:ers!

....we did pay alot of money for a guy that doesn't even score in the youth team. I'll give you that!
