What exactly is meant by 'a glamour pre-season friendly'? Just the fact that they would play against Ajax makes it a glamorous occasion for them? If that is the case then the Villa lot sure know their classics.

I have read that Arsenal's proposed first game in their new stadium will be a testimonial for Bergkamp and Ajax will be the visitors , hopefully end July.

Nothing official on the Arsenal site .

Received this from a womble fan:-

There is a bit of chatter on one of the AFCW sites about a possible ‘masters’ friendly between our old players (’88 Cup Winning team ?) and your lot……

They did a ’88 re-match which was a success, and it appears that they are going to try again against Ajax. Apparently a number of Dutch players (15 according to the Dons Trust) have agreed to it….

Any news on this one across the north sea?

The third participant in this summer's Amsterdam Tournament has been announced on Ajax: after Ajax and Manchester United, Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray have been added to the bill. Three up; one to go.

The line-up for this year's Amsterdam Tournament is complete. Ajax, Manchester United and Galatasaray were already confirmed. Last week it was announced that Benfica were the 4th participant, but they have now bene replaced with Co Adriaanse's FC Porto. Read this:
http://english.ajax.nl/show/id=118083/contentid=46724

Also: the opening game of Arsenal's new Emirates Stadium, as well as testimonial for Dennis Bergkamp, will be played against Ajax on 22 July. I might hop across the pond for that one, actually.

Ko, do you think that game will be popular with Ajax fans? I'd really like to go and can probably fairly easily get a ticket in the Arsenal part of the ground as I know a few Gooners but I'd much prefer be in the Ajax end - how easy will it be to get a ticket???

Although there's been some rumour about one of the planned pre-season games, official news states the following,

"Villa will not be playing Ajax this summer. They will be on tour in Germany and Holland - stay tuned to www.avfc.co.uk for confirmed games."

De Telegraaf answered your question today. Ajax apparently expect a huge interest from Ajax supporters: they applied for an allocation of 15,000 tickets. Arsenal, however, will not allocate us that many. Interest in the U.K. is overwhelming as well. That's why Arsenal want to give Ajax the 'normal' maximum allocation of 8,000 tickets (that's 10% of the ground capacity).

Should be enough, easily. 8,000... That's how many Ajax fans travelled to Milan for the quarter final in the CL in 2003. And you can actually drive to Milan. 8,000 Ajax fans to London for a friendly...? I don't think that many will go.

Not for the first time, De Telegraaf correct their earlier report today. Ajax will get 3,000 tickets. I still think that should easily be enough. I mean: many people will be on vacation on 22 July and when was the last time more than 3,000 Ajax fans travelled to a European away game...? I think that must have been the Milan game in 2003 (7,000+ over there).

Everyone who really wants to go should be able to get a ticket, I guess.

By the way: the club have not published their pre-season schedule yet, but according to local press they will play amateur side ABS Bathmen (near the German border) on 11 July.

I expect the full list of pre-season fixtures to be presented by Ajax soon.

No, I'm afraid I've never seen the Wombles. It's just that one of my mates is from MK and for some strange reason he supports the Dons. The rest is history ;)

Oh well, You've missed a classic programme but what's worse is that you have a mate who supports Franchise FC! You could always watch a repeat from the TV but I'm not sure what the cure is for him. Anyway, it looks like they'll be playing AFC Dons in the league any time soon....

According to reports here in Holland Barcelona have invited Ajax for their traditional pre-season game (Joan Gamper Cup) at the Nou Camp. It is the opening game of the new season for Barcelona. Last season they invited AC Milan.

Barcelona want to turn the game into a 'farewell match' for Henk ten Cate. Normally Barcelona would have paid Ajax a sum of money, but in this case they 'paid' Ajax by letting Henk ten Cate go on a free transfer. This friendly is Ajax's payment for Ten Cate, in other words. Nice one.

Date? To be confirmed, I guess. It wasn't in the reports I read.

What Carcajou said!! As long as it isn't too close to the CL voorronde fixtures, it sounds like a nice run out for an Ajax 1 side which, one hopes anyway, would be filled out by the time of such a friendly.
