Vermeer has declined to extend his contract so it may be Cillessen is the #1 in training.

I think this move is more for next year than this year. Imagine the amount of money clubs would ask from us if we were looking for a new #1 next year. Also maybe Frank has faith in Denswil for one of the two CB spots.

Not sure that we have any complaints in light of how Verhoeven stepped in big time last season.

I say: stay! I think he's doing really well thusfar. Replacing Vermeer surely was the right thing to do.

Vermeer is a better pure shot blocker but Cillessen is better in every other aspect of the game. He also distributes the ball much quicker and to the right player. Barring injury or major screw up, he is the keeper for the next number of years until we sell him.

Cillessen has barely made a mistake since coming into the side. Just a good goalie who does his job and you don't even think about him .Vermeer is abit different,I wonder when he is going to make a mistake everytime the ball comes to him.Even when I have seen him play for Jong I am expecting a mistake. Probably being abit unfair on him but overall I think he is a very poor goalie.

He has great reflexes and is a good shot stopper -- his problem (aside from his so-so kicking) is that he makes some really stupid decisions from time to time. Still, he has served us well at times in the past, so let's hope for the best.

not quite right. You cannot ignore the assistance of Stekelenberg (who was FdB's number one until he got hurt) and Pizza Man Verhoeven who came in for a couple of matches and did quite well.

That's just quibbling -- he was our main, #1 goalie over the majority those times and most responsible (as far as the goalies go), for the championships.

Only the last two championships. 2010-11 he tore his Achilles tendon in the preseason and only played a few games at the end of the season. Steks was #1 until he injured his shoulder and Verhoeven filled in until Vermeer was health again. Certainly Vermeer was #1 for the last two seasons until falling out of form this year.

So we have won the last 2 titles inspite of having Vermeer in goal. Utrecht must have hoped he would play last week as he once gave away 3 goals by horrible mistakes. Think that was 2 years ago and we may have lost 4-2 but he certainly gave away 3 of the 4 goals that day.I do remember he kicked the ball straight to an unmark Utrecht player who kicked the ball straight into the net.
