hmm im not sure on that. sure he may have give him a morale boost. but i think it was more of a case of he was poor at ajax. he was publicly critisised for being over weight and off the pace, and he realised he wouldnt get anywhere if he was playing bad. so bucked his ideas up. couple of months later and hes being praised for his work ethic and we get results on the pitch.

Philips seems to be interested in El Hamdaoui. It seems he wouldn't like to play in Turkey and might be tempted to stay in Holland. I really hope we don't sell him to Philips, would hate it to see him succeed with one of our direct rivals for the eredivise: Plus one of their weak points last season was precisely center forward so we would be selling to directly to fill their needs. Anyway, they might be only after El Hamdaoui if they receive a nice paycheck for Dzudzak.

Saw a blurb on AN about Rubin Kazan inquiring (in the market ?) about El Hamdaoui . Wondering if "in the market" at this stage means something like this :

reports today that ajax told el hamdaoui he is no more welcome in the first team. If not sold before, he has to present to Jong Ajax for training. Great player, infamous attitude: I can't certainly blame our club for this decision.

I think he was made more of a villain than he actually deserved. Watching last season's highlights he did score some incredible goals, particularly the one against herenveen. Oh well, it ends really sour for both sides, too bad.

His initials sum up my attitude toward him at this point : MEH !!!! I'm sorry to see his time at Ajax end like this, but his form and attitude really nosedived. A shame after several early matches showed signs of promise. Not discounting his 13 goals , but Ajax can't afford to take on passengers for what will be a , hopefully , campaign of greater than 45 competitive matches.

Someone pointed out in an earlier post that once Suarez left and the opposition defenses didn't have to concentrate on stopping him and could pay more attention to the other players -- that's when El H's limitations were exposed.

I think he had a lot of individual quality and he combined well, on occasion, with Suarez. But once Frank showed up and switched to the traditional Ajax 433, El Hamdaoui was a square peg in a round hole.

And, no matter how frustrating he was, it saddens me that fans booed him.

Yeah i think the treatment of Mooney was a tad harsh, but there's no excusing his bad attitude towards being on the bench against Milan, which was a decision well justified by our performance.

Let's get €4-5m for him and be grateful for his contribution to the 3rd star.

Well I wasn't actually counting, but ESPN had a 50 best goals of the season highlights programme for just about all of the leagues they cover and for the Eredivisie at least 3 were from El Hamdaoui. Sad to see him leave in these circumstances, and the TV reminded me of some of the excellent finishing he provided in the first few months at least.
