In the mean time, somewhere in the Dutch town of Zeist... the draw for the first three rounds of the KNVB Cup took place.

For some reason that sounds absolutely bizarre right now. But it's true.

Ajax have free passage through the first two rounds and enter the competition in the third round. First cup fixture: Ajax vs MVV on 21, 22 or 23 September.

Note that PSV play Sparta Rotterdam (in Eindhoven), Feyenoord play Roda JC (in Rotterdam) and Twente play either Capelle or Sneek (away). So I guess it's fair to say that Twente got the easiest draw, but that PSV and Feyenoord definitely have a tougher job to do than Ajax.

Ajax vs MVV, our fixture in the third round, has been scheduled for Wednesday 22 September. Kick-off time 18:45 CET.

I will almost certainly give this one a miss, as our baby is due September 17...

Sparta Nijkerk - VV Noordwijk

That's 9 Eredivisie sides, 3 First Division, 3 Topklasse and 1 Hoofdklasse (that one being Noordwijk). At least one non-league outfit to make it to the quarter finals.

Games will be played on 21, 22 and 23 December. Exact dates and kick-off times t.b.a.

I have to admit: we're always lucky in the cup. I don't know how it's possible, but we always get the easy ones and we always get home games. This has been the case for at least a couple of years now, hasn't it...
