SE6Ajacied schreef:I can't help with sourcing an Ajax shirt (though you can get one here for around £35.00 in the shops) but I did find this useful looking guide on European/UK/US clothing sizes.

Thanks for the link. I think that might solve the issue, the numbered sizings are children's sizes, which makes sense for the prices as well. I didn't realize that, I guess that shows how much children's clothing I've bought :ajaxsmiley.gif:

OK, I'll be in Amsterdam Monday to Wednesday next week but my favourite record store Boudisque seems to have closed down. Can anyone recommend another please, I like world/indie type stuff and especially Dutch stuff that I can't get here in the UK.

Does anyone know as well if Ajax will be training on Wednesday morning? Obviously no game for me to go to but training is the next best thing and would be good to see the new players "live". If anyone fancies joining me btw that would be good too.

Why did it seem so obvious at the time that this was all bound to end in tears?

What a surprise: Ruud Gullit walking away from his job, and not a word about the fact that he wasn't delivering. Not a split-second of self-reflection.

The man is so shameless. When he left Feyenoord, what he left behind was a big pile of smoking crap. Everybody totally hated him for destroying the club. The following season he was commentator on Dutch TV and for a reason that is beyond me they also allowed him to talk about Feyenoord matches. It was an embarrassment. When the presenter said something positive about Feyenoord's play, Gullit would say: "Yeah, we actually started working on that last year - and they're now starting to reap the fruits, which is good for them." When the presenter said something negative about Feyenoord, he'd say: "Yes, I know. That's a structural problem at that club. I've worked very hard on it myself, but it's very hard to change certain things over there."

I've heard him say it and he didn't even blink his eyes.

It's never his fault. Absolutely unbelievable and he actually appears to believe his own stories, too!

Record stores closing down it appears on a weekly basis here - dowloading killing it. Go discs and musicland also closed down or about to.

Concerto is still probably the best in town to go to

Yep. Most definitely. One of the best record stores in the country and definitely the best in Amsterdam. It's in Utrechtsestraat.

You should also check out Fame Music in Kalverstraat, right at the beginning just off Dam Square. That's Amsterdam's HMV, you could say: more of a 'commercial' store than Concerto, but they have loads of great titles for 5 euros and a fantastic selection of (English language) music books for small prices.

My favourite places for second hand vinyl: Concerto (see above; say hi to Maartje), Velvet (Rozengracht) and - last but not least - the great Record Palace (right across the street from the Paradiso, just off Leidseplein).

My favourite one in London is is the Rough Trade shop (Tabot Road), by the way. Can't wait 'til my nest visit (September 1st, almost certainly).

Cheers Ko, yes Fame Music and me are very well aquainted lol - still no plaque to the mighty Ajax though.

The Rough Trade shop is indeed a good bet but if you haven't already then I can recommend trying the Music and Video Exchange. One of a few branches is in Berwick Street (which I'm certain you'll know). Really great for secondhand vinyl, CD's and DVD's. A bit off the beaten track but I can also recommend Beano's Records and Memory Lane Records in Croydon (my home town). Both sell only secondhand stock. Memory Lane is quite small and not worth the trip on it's own but specialises in old 60's vinyl and does some good punk/new wave stuff (unless I've bought it all). It's just around the corner from Beano's which is bigger and much more well know. It used to claim to be the the largest secondhand record shop in Europe at one time a few years back but it's scaled down a bit now, still a great place to visit though. If you fancy it you can get to East Croydon in about 20 minutes from Victoria or London Bridge main-line train station.

Yeah, that's a real shame. I know the shop though can't say it's a regular haunt of mine or anything. I do like buying CD's rather than downloads but I do tend to get a lot from the internet.......

Steve McLaren appears to have scored a YouTube hit...

For some reason the good man believes it's necessary to speak a form of simplified 'toddlers English' in Holland. A short McLaren interview for FC Twente TV appeared on YouTube. It was now viewed 150,000 times an hundreds of Brits are taking the piss. He even made headlines in some of the tabloids: "It is a mystery why he speaks in such a funny accent in a country like Holland, where even the homeless in the streets beg for money in perfect English."

An English comedian also did a pretty funny sketch about it.

Check this link: the top video is the original, the bottom video the comedian's take on it.

:drecul.gif: It's almost like he's trying to speak English in a Dutch accent - he seems to be subconsciously copying the accent of the interviewer. That's really quite funny but probably totally unfair to laugh - someone probably told him not to speak too fast :biggrin.gif: :biggrin.gif:

His quotes after the Arsenal only showed how even more delusional he is, he sounded like they'd won the game. I'm just glad it looks like Twente is in worse shape than we are starting out the season. I think he's going to be sacked before the end of the season.

Which game were you watching? Twente played some high quality football and deserved much more from the match. Once N'kuffo is back in the starting eleven (he was serving the first of a two match euro ban in the Arsenal game) Twente will be a force to be reckoned with.
