More quality on the ball than with the senior team. They also do well in tight spaces. Some dodgy defending but in the end don''t concede anything. Won't be able to watch the second half unfortunately. Let's hope they can build upon this first half and get a goal to progress in the competition.

Started watching Ajax tv but found livetv had a clearer picture on my main computer.

Roma players look alot bigger and imagine they are all nearer 19 ,lots of our kids are 17. Our defence looks a
bit dodgy but remember that Owusu,Sanniez and V Bruggen are all 18 and now play Jong Ajax games.Those 3 plus Riedewald all played earlier games and would make our defence very strong.

0-0 at fulltime ,Nouri missed a penalty after 57 mins and now with no extra time its penalties and thats something we dont do .

Have enjoyed watching this and we do seem to get the ball forward more which is something our first team does not do,

Surprise surprise we lost 6-5 on pens.Eiting missed our 6th pen so thats it.Nouri's miss in 57 being the main pen miss

yes Muric, El Azzouzi and v d Beek all had hard shots and took their pens ok.

Roma were a big typically physical Italian side and we played the football but there is talent in our players.Nouri Cerny and v d Beek get all the notices but El Mahdioui at DM played well and near the end played more defence to let Eiting ,only16, play DM .Savastano played CD to start but looked a lot better in the 2 nd at his natural LB.

Up front Muric gets talked about as being in the first next season but as well as Cerny Dekker impressed me ,a left winger who in his brief 10 mins put in some nice crosses .

I have listed all the 18 year old kids who were not here tonight ie they are either in first team or Jong.We have some good kids coming through and although I never enjoy watching any Italian side it was nice to see our kids of the future.

And yesterday night they didn't even play their best game.

Really a shame that it is over now after these penalty kicks, I would really loved seeing some more games of the Ajax A1 in this tournament.

What a club Ajax Amsterdam!!

Over 4.000 spectators were watching the youth game yesterday night at De Toekomst. Would have been at least between 1.000 and 2.000 more if they would have played in Amsterdam Arena instead.

Unfortunately Ajax A1 lost the game after taking 12 penalties (Carel Eiting, a 17 year old player I really like missed the only one) and Nouri already missed a penalty during the game.

Nouri does not seem ready for our first but is v d Beek ready to play one or 2 sub games this season? What do you think of Muric ?

NB Our B1 U17 team beat the highly rated Fword U17 2-0 last night.

The 3 players I like most are Van de Beek, Cerny and Eiting who is by far the youngest player.

Muric didn't do well yesterday night, he had a really tough match against AS Roma defender Anocic, also a player from Croatia and only 17 years old, 1,5 years younger than Muric.

Next game will be played at De Toekomst this Saturday afternoon, Ajax A1 vs PSV Eindhoven A1!

Well... what is ready?
It is really not Frank de Boer style to throw a teenager from the academy in front of the lions (Dutch expression).

A couple of years ago I wanted Frank to do this with Lesley de Sa at PSV-Ajax (not that I think De Sa is a very good player, but he would have outrunned and annoyed Erik Pieters very much).

Muric, Van de Beek and Nouri were the three guys picked for the trainings camp in Qatar last month, in January. They are close to the first squad. As soon as we have a lot of injuries, we will see this guys in the squad.

I really hope we will see Donny vd Beek and Davy Klaassen in Ajax 1 together. Would be an awesome combination.

I also would like to see a friendly between Ajax 1 and Ajax A1 with Diederik Boer in the goal at the first squad and Jasper Cillessen as goalkeeper Ajax A1.

Let's see how long the game will stay at a 0-0 score and if the 'real' Ajax team will manage to score even one goal against the A1.

I only saw the first half. Muric is left footed, correct? If so, that might have explained why he couldn't beat his defender to the right. He wanted to cut inside every time and while he did beat one or two players, the Roma defense was well organized and he was not able to get a hard shot on goal. As I noted in an earlier post, the most amazing thing was how this group of players was able to handle the ball in tight spaces. While they couldn't quite get the decisive shot off, it was so refreshing to see players not lose the ball after two passes.

There still seemed to be some of the mentality of the senior team to pass the ball back to the central defenders and keeper when they really have the talent to play the Barca type of quick passing game inside the offensive half rather than the slow passing build up inside the defensive half. We will see how this translates as these players move forward. Could their arrival change FdB's strategy (provided he sticks around)?

Ok, you only saw the first half? Yes, in that case your analysis is correct, in the first half it was really difficult to beat the well organised AS Roma defense.

In the last 25, 30 minutes of the match Ajax became much stronger, our A1 also seemed the fittest of the two, Nouri should have taken that penalty away and a shame that after the draw it was directly a penalty shootout and no overtime.

We will see how this translates as these players move forward. Could their arrival change FdB's strategy (provided he sticks around)?

Yes. I hope and expect that will change FdB's strategy.
It should change the strategy and also the speed of the game!
