That moron is a shame for football. He should have been banned for life after having confessed to breaking some guy's leg on purpose. What a total wanker.bryan schreef:Hey, don't knock the great man. Indeed, his contract is up in June 2006.
Imagine him and Sneijder in midfield together. Poor Wesley would be scared shitless.

meh :|
That puts him in a similar category as one of my all time fav Ajax players ..... Jan Wouters. Wouters, like Keane, could be real bastard when required. I wouldn't mind Ajax having another midfield enforcer who could combine his enforcers role with the tactical acumen that Wouters and Keane have displayed.Carcajou schreef:That moron is a shame for football. Will Juanfran ever get to play for us!! We have signed a guy who is not fit and when he finally plays for the reserves is sent off and wont be available until Nov. Doubt we will risk him for the Thun match.
He will not have played in the 3 big games F-Word, PSV and AZ.nor our first 3CL games.By the time January comes Maxwell will be fit and we could be in the UEFA Cup .
May as well send him back to Turkey!!

I think you're splitting hairs a bit there Bryan. We're all talking about Haarland, the Man City player...I can't remember the exact injury but it wasn't any less serious than a broken leg.

Haaland tried to sue Keane for damages due to a career ending injury, but he never even got to court. There wasn't a lawyer in England stupid enough to represent him because he had already published on his website that the injury was a long term one that had nothing to do with Roy Keane's tackle.
But the British tabloids never let the facts get in the way of a juicy story.

Ok, Well I missed that point - agree totally about the tabloids and don't read them. I think the fact that Keane published his intent is bad enough though - if I shoot someone with a gun but it misses doesn't exactly mean that I'm innocent.bryan schreef:Haaland tried to sue Keane for damages due to a career ending injury, but he never even got to court. Or the new Marcio Santos... That's probably a better analogy. Ole Tobiasen came to Ajax as an enthusiastic young player and had a short series of fantastic games, but became the victim of a terrible injury.bryan schreef:There was nothing much to say about Juanfran anyway.
I wonder if he's not the new Ole Tobiasen.
Marcio Santos, like Juanfran, came to Ajax as a big signing (more or less as a star), but simply never made an impact.
There is a risk that the same will happen to Juanfran, not due to the fact that it took him a while to get match fit, but due to that stupid red card for elbowing someone in the face (= his own mistake and not 'bad luck'; that's why I think we can compare him to Marcio Santos).
But he is a good player, for sure. Who knows what will happen in November and December (don't expect Maxwell back before the winter break...). Maybe he'll be great and until then I'm not going to say this was a bad idea.

According to football journalist Johan Derksen Ajax have decided to land Juanfran permanently. He is currently playing for Ajax on loan from Besiktas, but Ajax have the option to buy him. Which they will, according to Derksen in football talkshow Voetbal Insite.
Excellent news. Juanfran is a star.

Well I'll be happy with Juanfran. I've not seen all that much of him I have to admit but what I have seen, he looks solid and dependable...something we've been lacking at times of late.Steef schreef:I'm sorry, but according to you Lobont has been a star. And Escude. Rosales, as well. Not to forget Grygera.
Juanfran is serviceable, but I'd take Emanuelson over him any day.

I think Juanfran was somewhat to blame for the Twente goal, but overall he is a good player and we should look to sign him on a permanent basis.SE6Ajacied schreef:Well I'll be happy with Juanfran. Emanuelson could become a great player. He is very much like Davids or Winter in that he shows great energy and determination allied to a good technical level.

That is bollocks. I never said that. It took me years to trust him and I've never said he's a Great Goalkeeper.Steef schreef:according to you Lobont has been a star.
Untrue as well. I think Julien Escudé is a very good defender and a very good football player. Better than Heitinga, probably better than Vermaelen. It is a shame that we sold him for 1.8 million euros and I think Ajax have made a mistake. And Escude.
That's something different than saying he's a star. Which he's not.
Rosales has the potential. He was absolutely stunning in his first weeks, then he was sh*t for about a year and now he's improving again. But he has the potential to be a star, for sure.Rosales, as well.
Grygera was called 'the guitar player of Oasis' once (I believe it was Jim/ajaxusa who said it) and we joked about that a bit. Grygera has a certain coolness to him, which I really like. Also, I think he's essentially one of Ajax's best players at the moment, i.e. he's the only Ajacied at the moment who would absolutely make it at his position at any club in the world. No matter where he goes, he's just a great central defender. Not to forget Grygera.
I think he's much more than that. You can see that Juanfran is experienced: he has brought calmness to the defense, he knows when to whack the ball away and sometimes he just mows down his man because he knows it's necessary. At Twente he did that once: you could see him flying in with no other intention than to foul his man. Any inexperienced youngster would have been booked for it, but Juanfran made this supercool 'shit happens, y'know' gesture to the referee and got away with it. He has something special. It's his aura, I guess. Also, I think his passing is great and his crosses very good.Juanfran is serviceable
Also, what I was talking about in my previous post was the fact that he has a certain star quality to him. Which doesn't necessarily mean that he's brilliant. Star quality means looking like you've got everything under control. Marcio Santos had the same sort of natural coolness to him, but he was crap for Ajax. He just wasn't interested. Juanfran has been great for us so far. Very good decision to sign him up permanently.

I knwe this was a very good signing from the start, this guy has pasion, drive and charisma. He`s just a guy who loves what he does and just gets the job done, its been a while since we`ve had two very good left backs, back in the days we used to depend to much on Maxwell cause good old John O`brien was injured plus left back was not O`brien prefered position we now have two true left backs who`ve got game.
BRING IT ON !!!!...
would he be another Winston Bogarde ? ;)Kowalczyk schreef:

As a signing he's more like Marcio Santos: a great defender with this fantastic winner's aura around him. He joined Ajax right after having won the World Cup with Brazil. It was really special that such a player, in his position, chose for Ajax.philippe schreef:would he be another Winston Bogarde ? ;)
Unfrotunately, he wasn't interested at all. He was aloof and nonchalant and there really is nothing we should remember him for.
Juanfran is a similar case, in my opinion, but there are two crucial differences:
1. he didn't join Ajax as a world champion, but when his career was in a crisis.
2. (as a result of #1) he is interested in Ajax, having a great time here and very determined to make the most out of it.
I really like him. If we land him permanently I'll have his name of my shirt for next year, I think.

Sorry Ko, the guy is a terrible defender. I'm pissed he'll be suspended next Sunday. :sad:Kowalczyk schreef:Yeah. He has that star quality to him. Very charismatic. Very merciless, too.
