I think that Manchester is. BUT their president pours so much money every year for transfers, it's ridiculous. This is why people think they are a big club. They are a rich club, period. Meanwhile, they're probably the most boring English club, playing catenaccio style. They would fit the Italian championship pretty well IMNSHOjakobg schreef: and is the richest club.

Great conflicts of reports today. The report yesterday stated that Lerby was the agent for Gossens and Sarpong. Today's report states comments from the boys agents and they are certainly not Lerby. They have said no interest from
Chelsea but there has been some interest for Goosens.
Question to Ko or anyone else who reads the Dutch papers what is Lerby to do with this??
I was at a local game today and was telling my friend about this.He found it amazing that 2 young 17 year olds have agents!!

Ajax can't be blamed for that... It's against the law over here to sign kids younger than 18 on a professional contract. That's child labour -- and to be honest I don't at all disagree with that law. It's the way it should be.SPL schreef:I too was very upset about Chelsea stealing our youth but having spent a couple of hours thinking about it there is only one club to blame here and that is Ajax. These 2 lads were both 17 back in the summer and are talents having played for the Dutch U17's before this tournement. The other U17 Anita was given a 3 year contract but Ajax have decided not to give these 2 contracts yet. Instead they have given contracts to alot of youngsters of 19.
The only thing you can offer to players younger than 18 years old is some sort of a 'youth contract' (which legally isn't a contract but some sort of an 'declaration of intention').
What Chelsea are doing here is trading in children. Without having the decency to contact the club that taught them how to play football. Makes me want to vomit.

I agree, I mean Chelsea are like Vulchers, trying to kidknapp Ajax's kids, they are no better then paedophiles :argue: If these kids had any sense they would stay and develop at Ajax thats the only way they can progress, a move to the artifical Chelski would be the end of both of their careers, they would just be loaned out and Chelski would keep puchasing mature players which would deprive them of first team football.

Do you remember that bloke? He left Ajax when he was still a youth player, because he could sign a deal at Juventus. I don't think he ever saw action for the first team. He wasted some tremendously important years over there and then moved back to Holland. My last update was that he is playing for an amateur side (SV Huizen, I believe) and doing some try-outs at First Division sides... If anything special happened to him after that, it really says a lot that I didn't read or hear about it anywhere.
I'm not saying that he would have been a starter for Ajax-1 by now, had he decided to stay. But it's a safe bet that he would have had more of a career than he's had now. Moving to Juventus as a teenager is the most stupid thing you can do. Moving to Chelsea is probably even more stupid, because money is even less of an issue for them). Abramovich and the coaches won't even know who they are if they go there.

You are making a very valid point here.
I wonder how many teenage "future" buys for the big clubs that wind up in success stories. There are numerous stories that can be told to keep the boys at home.
Isaksson (Sweden's GK) almost lost he's carreer moving to Juventus as a 17-year old. He is now probably one of the worlds top 15-20 GK. He had to move back home to Sweden, tail between legs, and recuperate.
We have like 15 other guys currently playing in Allsvenskan who've gone the same way. Abroad, sick, home. Loosing some very important years of playing senior football and building confidence.
As I mentioned earlier in this thread, if the players are well informed and educated, their choice shouldn't be a hard one.

Yes it is. Will it prevent other youngsters from moving abroad ?
I don't think so. They will go for money, fancy clubs that can boost their HUGE egos and media exposure. And they'll fail. At least I hope youngster leaving before 22/23 do.

A question to Ko about dutch labour laws. ( or for anyone else of course)
I know there is a difference but you have made your comments about Chelsea trying to pinch our 17 year old kids but we are after a17 year old Belgium boy from Anderlect . I know we will have to pay real money to Anderlect but are you happy with us taking 17 year old Belgiums??
As I said last week we have taken several young kids from Germinal Beerschot Antwerp by the time they were 17.Aborah, de Mul, Vermaelen and Vertoghen were all 17 when we signed them. (We have a 17 year old Dane Per Weihrauch under contract as well)
If it is wrong for Chelsea to take 17 year old kids surely it is wrong for Ajax to knick 17 year olds from GBA.??
As the age for signing a full pro contract is 17 in England and obviously in Belgium why do you not think the Dutch should be the same??
What is the age in other European Countries?? Surely EU rules should apply to all member states.
One final question Vurnon Anita, the 3rd of our u17's in that U17 WC has a3 year contract. His date of birth is April 1989!!! Sarpong is August 1988 and Gossens July 1988.Ajax surely could have signed these other 2 under the same terms as Anita?

Continuing my thing about us losing players.
I note from Ajax Netwerk that Vonk, Anastasiou and Boukhari are unlikely to get new contracts and Trabelsi wont sign another. Come January Lobont Escude and Heitinga will probably leave as they cannot get in the team and unless we get injuries are unlikely to.
In addition Galasek Piennar and DeJong futures are up in the air. My gut feeling is that they will leave. This clubs treatment of De Jong is disgraceful in not giving him a decent improved contract and the press over here still say Ferguson wants him. Add to these 11 Maxwell's contract is up , although I feel he will stay another season and Charisteas could be moved on and you see what I mean that we have a big problem.
I do not think I am being over dramatic when I say that 12/13 players will move on.

SPL, it is a very good thing if 12/13 players will move on. The current players do not have the potential we all hope for.
Most players you mention are crap.
Hopefully, Ajax can keep Trabelsi and Maduro for the club. IMO, all other players are free to leave.
After this season Martin van Geel can build a new squad. He has experience with buying good and cheap players. Also some players from the youth department are promoted to the senior squad next year. Probably Anita, Goossens and Sarpong.

As you'll understand, 'Anito Vurnon' (last sentence) is Vurnon Anita...CHELSEA FAIL WITH AJAX RAID
Ajax starlets John Goossens and Jeffrey Sarpong have turned their backs on Chelsea's millions.
The Dutch youth aces were amongst the top performers during the recent World Under-17 championships in Peru.
Both Goossens (pictured) and Sarpong caught the eye of Chelsea's new head of development and scouting Frank Arnesen.
The Dane immediately highlighted the 17-year-old pair as 'must haves' for Chelsea's academy - but they have been snubbed after making approaches.
Striker Goossens has penned a three-year professional deal, while Sarpong is due to sign a similar deal in the coming days.
Ajax had insisted that they could not compete with the likes of Chelsea over professional terms but they have now managed to tie down two of their most promising youngsters.
The Dutch giants have already tied down a third member of Holland's youth side in the shape of Anito Vurnon - who is now on the brink of making his first team debut.

I really do hope that Nigel signs but Man U and Spurs fancy him so I am concerned that we will lose him.We need to offer him a proper increase and play him in midfield. One good thing if we lose him next summer when he is out of contract we will get some compensation under UEFA rules.I think this applies to under 23's who have been at one club.It will still be nothing like we would get if we were to sell him under contract.
I am very very angry with Ajax over De Jong. As for Pienaar well he has spent a lot of time injured over the last 2 years so I can see why Ajax waited to offer him a contract.
Ajax should now be looking at 2007 contract expires ie Sneijder and Grygera and offering them extensions, Mitea also expires 2007.
Now that I have got that off my chest I am delighted that Sarpong and Goossens have said no to Chelsea. They can buy anyone in the world but our Kids said no. Well done lads. These 2 could be in our first team squad next season along with Anita.

Maxwell to Juve?
The rumors in the Italian media are getting persistent... It is reported that Juventus are ready to make a move for Maxwell, and that they will start talking to him in January. Which means Maxwell will probably not be sold during the winter break but that he will leave on a Bosman at season's end. Reportedly Juve will offer him a four year deal @ 2.1 million euros/year.

Losing Maxwell with no money will be a big blow as he was due to be sold this last summer before his injury. We have now paid his wages and medical expenses and he is likely to leave and we get no money.
I doubt we will get any money for Pienaar as he is likely to play in the African Nations Cup and will be unavailable from early Jan.until mid Feb . Will anyone buy him before the summer ???
If Pienaar had a long contract I do not think we would get any more than the 5 m Euros we got for VDV . Maxwell was supposed to fetch about 7M euros last summer so we will be losing some serious money there.
I am not hopeful of De Jong staying but I believe we will get some compensation under UEFA rules as he is under 23.
With Trabelsi leaving next summer we are looking at an overall loss of some 20 M euros on these 4 Bosmans.
The club cannot be blamed for Maxwell , as we would have sold him but letting the other 3 enter the last year of their contracts was stupid and going to be costly.Trabelsi made it clear back in the summer this is to be his last season so we should have sold him. As for the other 2 we should have been talking about new contracts last January and if both had said no by the summer we should have sold.
I know alot of you will not agree with this thinking but Ajax have not learnt from the mid 1990's with Bosman.
The press are well aware of these players contract positions and a whole host of clubs are supposedly interested in Pienaar and Spurs and Man U in De Jong. They both know they can get a lot more money away from Ajax .

Those two announced they will not renew their contract at the end of the season and will leave transfer free.
