Players Leaving Ajax

Westermann says today he will likely stay next season.He says he cannot keep moving every year with his kids.Doesn't mention we pay him 1m euros pa. Every year we have someone we dont want who does not play and we dont pay them off. Boilesen last season,Serero this season.

Completely understandable on Westermann's part. However, who at the beginning of this season would have thought Viergever would be as good as he is, that Veltman would displace Tete and not be considered as a CB, or that de Ligt at age 17 would see first team football. Westermann turned out to be an unnecessary purchase but would any of us have said this last August?

U19 goalie de Lange is leaving and joining Twente where he will be either their no 2 or no 3.Ajax should have contracted him this time last year but have waited far too long and he has chosen to leave on sporting grounds.He will likely be a sub for their 1st but if he stays here he could end up as Jong Ajax sub all season.

Big question now is who goes and I dont expect the kids to go ie Dolberg Kluivert and de Ligt. Reports today that Onana has been offered lots more money by Marseille. Klaassen still thinking it over,get the impression he still wants another year Ajax is his great love.

Biggest problem is the defence.Veltman like Klaassen awaits the right offer. Tete and Riedewald will leave and Westermann hopefully will go. Also Viergever ,contract to 2018,has had no talks and if this continues he will go. He will get a decent offer from abroad.

An offer of 20m plus will see Sanchez go. I hope just Westermann and Veltman of the defenders leave but fear we will lose at least 3 or 4 of the 8.

As long as the board runs Ajax like a shoe factory instead of a football club we are never going to be able to keep our good players for long enough to build a sustained top flight team.

Realistically, who will want Veltman? He is not a right back and he's somewhat undersized to play CB at a top flight team. He's certainly not anywhere near as good as Alderweireld or Vertonghen. Those two are probably the best CBs the club has had in recent years. Riedewald has been dealt a short straw as he never settled into a position with the club, constantly moving between DM, CB, and LB. What is his best position? He's certainly not as good a CB as Viergever or de Ligt. He did get an NT call up a year or so ago but didn't do much. Only a mid-table team is going to take a flier on him.

Sanchez has real potential to play at a high level but he needs an extra year. He still makes some simple mistakes. Bosz and Overmars totally screwed up with Tete.

If we see a major clear out of defenders things will be quite bad next season. There are really no good options to buy within the Dutch league and no youth defenders who are ready yet.

For the center back positions all Ajax need are back ups for de Ligt and Sanchez. I hope Rick van Drongelen and Leo Santos Will be signed. Left back will be needed e.g Guillermo Arabs, provided that Viergever stays. As for the right back, hopefully Ajax sign Anita from Newcastle to replace Tete.

My post about defenders was the worst case . Sanchez will likely stay another year and hopefully so will Onana. They will continue to develop and in Onana's case he can go to a much better league than France .

Still leaves de Ligt Sanchez and Sinkgraven with Zeefuik as probables to stay. Viergever should stay but Overmars has not discussed an extension . Warmerdam at Zwolle who can play LB may return from loan.

With Tete and Riedewald not being played and no contract for Viergever we are making a right mess of defence.

Zivkovic returns from loan to Utrecht. He's had a mixed season there and who knows what management wants to do with him.

Zivkovic will leave. If Veltman goes to a club like Inter Milan, then Ajax would sit down with Tete. Viergever has a good chance of staying as well.

I am not far out with Sanchez's value. Barca still looking but local Barca paper says Ajax wont accept less than 25m .

Reading the comments of fans all say this is too low and we should be looking at 35 m plus. Well I say thats nonsense. A defender, however good, is not going to go for 30m plus after 1 season in Holland. A very good talent and he could reach the top .Not sure he is ready for Barca just yet .If we get an offer of near 30 m we should take it . de Ligt is ready
and can take over the right centre role.

Django Warmerdam , midfielder cum left back ,on loan at Zwolle this season is signing for Groningen for next season.
His contract with us is to 2018 so we will get a small fee.

Ezra Walian a forward with Jong Ajax is being released ,contract expires.He is now playing Ints for Indonesia. He has been over there the last 3 or 4 summers taking football equipment to the local kids . He initially did this out of his own pocket but Ajax I believe have given him shirts and balls etc. I wish him well .

Westermann is wanted by newly relegated German side Darmstadt. Hope he leaves .Didn't look bad on Sunday but that was GAE.Bergsma from Jong Ajax would have looked ok . He's 34 in the summer played very little this season and is not going to get any better.

If all the other defenders stay, Westermann is not needed. At the beginning of the season nobody thought de Ligt would be ready for first team football not to mention an NT call up (though the call up was way premature and a huge mistake by Blind).

According to de Telegraaf, Ajax have put a €25M price tag on Klaassen. I've seen on rumor that Ross Barkley is going to leave Everton this summer and Klaassen might join up with former Ajax trainer Ronald Koeman there. Frankly, I've never thought Barkley all that good and Klaassen is a better player. If Ajax can get that kind of money it would be a great transfer!!!

Agree above ,if we get 25m for Klaassen we will have done well.Overmars has done well in putting our best players on longer contracts .Hopefully the days when we lose our best players on the cheap ,as they have 1 year left are gone. I look at the Spurs trio, Vertonghen, Eriksen and Toby all went for about 12m euros as they had 1 year left .We should have got nearer 20m for each of them.

I have no problem in selling Klaassen, I would go further and say cash in on Schone as well, although he is at the wrong end of his 30s, he wouldn't be short of suitors. Ajax have got good midfielders coming through, and selling these two, would give more opportunities to the likes of Frenkie de Jong, van de Beek and Nouri. Not to mention other kids coming through such as Eiting and de Wit. That said, I would prefer Klaassen going to a top team rather than a mediocre team like Everton, I know people would dispute this, but wouldn't he want to play champions league football, despite playing top quality football in the premier league week in, week out?

According to the board's philosophy, Ajax is a shoe factory - not a football club. Players are only products made on a production line (the youth development system), and when finished put in the show window (the 1st team) to get the best price possible from the prospective customers.

Sanchez is not an Ajax product. Clearly a hugh talent we are lucky he joined us and has shown his quality already. He was only ever going to stay 2 years but now all the rich clubs want him .Talk of 40m so we will sell.

Dolberg clearly wants to stay longer and develop by playing regularly, so we may see him for 1 maybe 2 more years.
