In my Daily Mail today it reviews every team in the WC and states who they are like in English league. For Holland they are compared with Wolves!!!!!

Perhaps it's the shirt colour as I can't think of any other similarity, I assume it's the old 'under achievers' thing though, the last time Wolves were any good was 50 years ago now........

The worst Holland performance I can remember. :pukey:Kowalczyk schreef:Wow... What a shit game. Luxembourg vs Holland: 0-1. And they actually had two or three huge chances...
Total non-performance and none of the Ajacieden had a good game.
Disgraceful.

With Castelen injured, there isn't much right wingers. Only Van der Meyde, De Ridder, Vincken etc.Kowalczyk schreef:De Ridder...?

I don't see the point of having 3 central fowards, and two left fowards, and no natural right winger. The last good winger I know was Overmars, and he's legend.

Another painful performance by Holland, although slightly more convincing.
On the Ajacieds;
Heitinga again gave the ball away numerous times through sloppiness (he was consistantly whistled by the crowd...well, everyone was from time to time, but him non-stop). I have to repeat myself....I don't understand why he plays at this level.
Hunterlaar is REALLY struggling IMO......really "out of it". It looks like one of those confidence things strikers go through sometimes. I'm sure he'll snap out of it sooner or later but it's not good news for Ajax right now. It didn't help that he was taken off near the end, and Kuijt (moved to the center) scored a true striker's goal in the minutes that remained.
Babel's first touch was emabarrasing again, I'm talking basic ball trapping technique, nothing fancy. Private trainer or not, I close my eyes everytime the ball comes his way.
On a more positive note, Sneijder was good, he seems to be back to his former level this year.
PS Nigel de Jong has eaten a lot of German sausages in the summer by the look of him....

That's a bit too negative, if you ask me...Manneken Pis schreef:Another painful performance by Holland, although slightly more convincing.
I thought they had a really good first half. More than 70% possession, but they also passed fast and accurate - and they had chances. Should have been more than just 1-0 at half-time. I really thought they were convincing, and taking revenge for 'Luxembourg'.
The start of the second half was poor. They seemed poorly concentrated and allowed Belarus to battle back into the game (didn't get many chances, but they were threatening a couple of times). Halfway the second half they corrected themselves and the latter 20 minutes of the game were quite alright again.
I really thought this was a more than reasonable Holland game, all in all... but that's just my two cents.
Van Persie (two cracking goals) and Sneijder (very energetic and with a tremendous forward drive) were easily the two best men in orange, btw. Heitinga and Huntelaar quite possibly the two weakest...

That's correct, especially if Kuyt is on the left (?) and Van Persie on the right (?). Which was the case throughout the game against Luxembourg and during large stretches against Belarus. That way there will be plenty of danger from the wingers (Van Persie scored both of his goals by cutting to the middle from the right flank, and firing with his left), but no proper crosses coming in. Therefore, KJH was struggling.Raymon schreef:You can't expect Huntelaar to perform well with Kuyt and vPersie as wingers.
I didn't think he was that bad in the first half, btw. He frequently dropped back to midfield, asking for the ball, and he normally did something alright with it. But he was never dangerous, that's for sure, and in the second half he really was poor.

Well maybe I'm exagerating....I dunno....there seemed to be an awful lot of unforced errors against such a poor opponent.Kowalczyk schreef: That's a bit too negative, if you ask me...
I guess it's a Dutch thing too.
I know lots of English football fans who would have dwelt on the positives;
- Great performance by RvP ans WS ("world class")
- Winning when you play badly is a sign of champions
- Top of the group so how can you complain
- Need to save your best for tougher games
and so on......

It really doesent make sense too place a classic #9 like Huntelaar in between two wingers on their oposite sides, Kuyt is more suited for that position in this case, the croses are few and normally of bad quality, its basically like playing a 4-4-2 style with 3 strikers up front, so the center forward should be looking more for the through ball and running deep then spending his time with his back towards goal.Kowalczyk schreef:That's correct, especially if Kuyt is on the left (?) and Van Persie on the right (?). I for one liked the style Van Basten used in the World Cup, with a winger and and oposite winger, it gave the dutch atack some unpredictability, you had a centering winger who look to cross the ball and you had another winger cutting too the center looking for a shot. I still think that should be the way too go.
BRING IT ON !!!!...

This was a matter of time...
This week's issue of Sportweek magazine has an interview with Ruud van Nistelrooy in it, and he lashes out at Marco van Basten. Van Nistelrooy has not been called up for Holland anymore since this summer's World Cup (just like Mark van Bommel).
Quote: "I have my thoughts about Van Basten's integrity. His choices are not strictly based on a player's' qualities. There are other things involved. I call it the 'I-like-you-factor'. He just doesn't want certain personalities in his squad, plain simple. He should be honest about that. Don't beat around the bush."
So much for RvN's international career then.
