I think he's realizing that his time at Ajax is limited. Gentenaar is more than 10 years older than Vermeer and he really isn't the future goalkeeper. I think all he could have realistically hoped for is that Stekelenberg would move on soon and he could take over for a year or two before Vermeer, but it's not looking like that's going to happen due to how Vermeer has been developing. I think it's more important Vermeer sees more important first team action because of this.

And who says the UEFA Cup is shite? At least its interesting.Kowalczyk schreef:That's right. I mean: if St. Etienne and Belgian champions Standard Liege are in pot 5, the pot for the weakest sides... then it's a strong field over-all. Manchester City or Sampdoria from pot 3... It's not gonna be easy.

Sorry mate. Wasn't referring to any comments you have made personally. Just responding to your post.Kowalczyk schreef:I, for one, have never said that. Absolutely never, 'cos I genuinely think that's bollocks.DanK schreef:And who says the UEFA Cup is shite?

It's the 'general' football supporters and media etc who seem to think its some lower class of tournament. Personally I think the UEFA Cup has been more interesting than the past 4 or 5 season of the CL.
Barca v Chelsea? Im over it.

For me no more Praha or Kopenhagen. Been there both twice I think to see Ajax play. Been there done that. Same goes for Milan.Thomas schreef:I'll go with you all the way with Spurs and Standard, Ko. I'm pretty sure I'd go to Belgium for the Standard-match, ticket or no ticket.
As for the teams from pot 3 and 4, I'd like to play Kopenhagen and Slavia Prague again. Revenge would be sweet.
Spurs would be a great away game!!
But you have to think about the chances of Ajax progressing to a certain extent as well. I wouldn't be too happy if we'd draw Valencia, Manchester City, Hertha BSC and Standard.MIKE_ZUID2 (ASR_AFCA) schreef:For me no more Praha or Kopenhagen. As mentioned in the match thread (I think) yesterday. A pretty full slate of Dutch teams and poor performances in the last round for Portuguese/Romanian teams, which should only help with the Netherlands' UEFA coefficient.
There are definitely some heavyweights as far as the draw will be concerned, but we're still going to have to win, no matter who it is against, to get out of the group stage and progress in the tournament. So at this point I'm not too concerned, I have a feeling we will either show up and play well, or look really bad and it's going to be a consequence of this team, rather than who we play against.

Standard away won't be a nice trip, cause i think it will be a combirule like previous Belgians encounters. So just like a Dutch awaygame, only a bit further and in a new stadium (and better side). Also rather have a Spanish side or Benfica from pot 1, so that I can stroll around in the city in a t-shirt enjoying the sun, rather then having a walk with an umbrella in London.Thomas schreef:I'll go with you all the way with Spurs and Standard, Ko. He's not the Messiah. He's a very naughty boy!
I like Tottenham and Standard Liege away, would love a trip to London, and Slavia and Partizan home. The UEFA cup is definitely NOT shite. The competition is LOADED . Looking forward to the draw Tuesday with bated breath.

I guess you're a Crowded House fan then. "Everywhere you go always take the weather with you". Especially now the weather is English already up there I prefer myself a bit of sunshine. Besides that I've been to London already a couple of times and never fell in love.

You know, you do have a point there, personally if I was to chose a city to live in europe, it would have to be barcelona, nice weather, on the coast, and a really cosmopolitan city.
