Nigel de Jong is mentioned a lot in the press these days. He was linked with Manchester United a while ago, then it was reported that he was in talks with Borussia Dortmund and the latest rumours come from Italy. Two clubs are said to be interested in the Ajacied, whose contract in Amsterdam will expire at season's end: Palermo and Fiorentina.
According to the reports Ajax demand 4.5 million euros for the midfielder in January. Which is a lot of money for a player whose contract will expire in six months' time, but if so many clubs want him... why not ask for a fee like that?
(Obviously, if anyone is willing to pay that kind of money for him, we should sell him this month).

If Ajax manage to get 4.5 million for de Jong I would be over the moon. Perhaps our board is starting to finally figure things out. Maybe we can play other teams against one another to drive his price up in a bidding war -- that's just good capitalism right there. :headbang: Rock n' roll! :headbang:

In general (this goes for De Jong, but also for Pienaar and Trabelsi) I would say: if someone offers 1M or more in January -- do it. For less than one 1M we might as well keep the bloke.De Kuyper schreef:I dont think we will be getting 4.5 M for him from anyone, but it would sure be nice.
Middlesbrough have reportedly offered 500,000 pounds (= 750,000 euros) for Trabelsi. I'd say no thanks.

It's not just about who's willing to pay now for any of the players who want to leave - the players will have a say in it too. They won't want to sign contracts for several years with clubs they don't fancy, when they might have a better choice when their contracts end.
Why would Trabelsi want to go and spend the rest of the season helping Middlesboro avoid relegation, when he can stay and win a CL medal with us ... and then take his pick of some better clubs (than Middlesboro) in the summer?

Trabelsi would go to Middlesbrough for the cash, nothing more, nothing less
Here's hoping though, just booked my flights for the Inter home game :headbang:
Well, I have to say I admire the optimism. You won't find me on here slagging the team (and I won't comment on games usually unless I've seen the whole thing) but I've got this feeling winning the thing is a step too far.DrDuncan schreef:, when he can stay and win a CL medal with us ...

You are right that cash will be the main consideration. But what I'm thinking is that if a club like Middlesboro are willing to offer to buy Trabelsi at this stage of his contract with us, they will want him to sign for several years. In Trabelsi's shoes (or Pienaar's or De Jong's) I would be thinking that I would get more cash, and more chance of winning anything, by seeing out my time here, and choosing from a wider range of clubs who will be interested in the summer.
As for the optimism, I can't help thinking back 12 months when, even here in Liverpool, most people thought that if an English team would win the CL it would be Chelsea or Man Utd. Still I suppose lightning probably won't strike twice ...

Several Dutch media claim this morning that Nigel de Jong is very close to reaching an agreement with Spanish side Sevilla. Unfortunately, if the reports are to be believed he will join them in the summer, which means no cash for Ajax. Would be nice if we could sell him now for a million or so.

I am still waiting for someone to confirm that we will get compensation for him if he leaves at the end of his contract. Here in England a player like him would cost about £1m in compensation as he had been with his club since 16 and was under 23.As this is all part of the Bosman ruling etc it must apply to Holland.
I take it this has never happened in Holland, hence no one other than me on this site is quoting this.

If we'll get that pay for De Jong I think it will be more than 1 mln. As far as I remember the pay is bigger if player will play some games in national squad etc. But I might be wrong- we should ask someone from FIFA/UEFA about it.
PS: It will be the worst nightmare to see De Jong, Pienaar and Trabelsi leaving Ajax for free in the summer. It will be better to sell them now (even for lower price). The only thing that might save me from this nightmare can be clubs not from the European top- such as Middlesbrough etc. It is the only chance for them to buy good players almost for free. Just imagine- in the summer De Jong, Pienaar and Trabelsi will have many offers from bigger, richer and better clubs, so they won't join clubs like M'brough for sure.
But I still believe that Blind will keep De Jong in Amsterdam...

I think De Jong will be the only who we will get money for ie £1m tops in compensation.
Pienaar seems to have agreed with Dortmund, who have no money even if he signs this month!!!. Trabelsi is in Egypt with Tunisia so unless Inter or Juve come in for him in the next 2 weeks he will almost certainly leave in summer and no one will pay money for Maxwell this month as he is still injured so De Jong will likely be the only one who might realise a little money.

To confirm that we must get compensation for de Jong, I refer to the imminent transfer over here of 16 year old Theo Walcott, currently with Southampton. He is not 17 until March and cannot sign a full contract until then.He is on a youth contract until then. According to the press he is interesting Real madrid and Barcelona but if either signed him on his 17th Birthday they would have to pay compensation set by FIFA and this would be likely £300000. If he joined another English side on his 17th then the FA would set a fee and this is likely to be nearer £1m.
The main point of this for Ajax is that a compensation system operates in Europe as I thought so De Jong will cost another club some money in compensation.
I know I keep going on about this but in the end we will not get more than £1m if we are lucky whereas if he were on a long contract we could be looking at £4m possibly.Having said that teams like Moan u and the italian giants were supposed to be interested but at the moment the only teams interested are Dortmund and Sevilla both very average in their own countries. A move to either would be a step down for him in my eyes.

West Ham...?
According to newspaper De Telegraaf a West Ham United delegation was on the stands for Nigel de Jong against NEC. The Premiership side reportedly want to land De Jong before the transfer window closes -- and Ajax reportedly demand 1.5 million euros for him.
That would be great. It would be a very good fee given the situation and the NEC match has made clear that De Jong is no longer interested in playing for Ajax. He was playing for himself. Would be an excellent deal and I hope it will happen.

Martin van Geel confirms today that West Ham have officially contacted Ajax about the possibility of landing Nigel de Jong before the end of the month. Van Geel added that no other clubs have contacted Ajax. The Sevilla story (they were said to be interested in both Escudé and De Jong) is bollocks. The only club in the picture are West Ham. All other parties are apparently not interested in a transfer this month.

Although the teletex shows the West Ham interest , earlier this evening on Sky sports news it just said West ham are no longer interested, no details.
West Ham evidently want him to play right back, whereas De Jong obviuosly wants to play midfield. I imagine that could be the reason behind the dropping of interest.
