I hope it was a joke... Grygera is more universal defender- he can play as a right-defender, sweeper, or even left-defender when it's necessarily (he played some games as a left-defender in his national team and, in my opinion, wasn't bad). Besides he is, at the moment, better player than Jaap Stam.

The yellow card Grygera picked up in the Den Haag game was his 6th of the season, which means that he will be suspended for Sunday's home game against RBC Roosendaal. The KNVB confirmed this today.
By the way: Grygera will be handed a one game suspension for every yellow card he gets from now on...

Seriously, I remember comments about another defender who has left the ship for Spain recently, about him being too weak and not tough enough. And now I should complain about Grygera getting booked? Naaah. I mean what do you want? A flawless defender that is tough, but yet never booked? Sounds impossible.
Zdenek is the man. One of the only surviving this disaster.

Get a midfield with some teeth and perhaps the number of cards will decrease.Tough not to step in,even at the expense of a card, when attackers flow into our box like water through a strainer. Also, Vermaelen is not of the caliber we need. Finally, don't play Grygera out of position, rb or lb. In an ideal 2006-07 Ajax, Grygera and Stam play together.Trabelsi is replaced by other than Johnny Heitinga.Urby Emanuelsson continues to develop. The cards should drop.

In other news, he'll probably try to go at the summer mercato....dws schreef:Grygera has a torn calf muscle.
I hope we'll be able to get some quality replacements, because Stam is NOT a player for the future and Vermaelen and Heitinga are well... you know.... Not top notch.
And we need a right back too.
To put it simple, our defence will be a mess by June X'C

Let me see.... As of now we have Emmanuelson, Trabelsi and Grygera as very good players. The problem is that the last two of them will probably be in England or Italy by the summer break and Emmanuelson is more of a natural midfielder...jakobg schreef:And this far this season it has been...?carcajou schreef:To put it simple, our defence will be a mess by June X'C
I think the situation could be much better, ayup...

Jaap Stam is a start, but Ajax need to spend the euros to bring in a right back and a more mobile compliment to Stam.Keep the versatile Vermaelen and Heitinga(if he doesn't leave, convinced he is just what an Italian side needs), but they simply aren't quality enough, at least now, to start for a side with CL knock-phase and League title aspirations. If Ajax don't make the investment, might as well set up a toll booth in the Ajax half and at least charge all the traffic running thru there .I've seen emergency snow routes with less traffic .

I understand you mate, but the exact words could have been: "To put it simple, our defence will be even worse by June"carcajou schreef:Let me see.... I think we should give Bergdölmo a call!

I think Jakob was kidding...
If not, he's one serious nutter. :D
Seriously, we seriously need a physically strong, experienced defender. It's great that we'll have Jaap Stam next season. However, we should not get another 'old' defender. We need one veteran, plus a youngster who can develop by playing alongside him. When Stam retires, that young defender should be able to be the leader in the back and to make the young defender next to him a better player. Ideally, that process should go on forever.

I was indeeed kidding. I actually saw Bergdölmo play a game recently, and he was slow as hell. ;)Kowalczyk schreef:I think Jakob was kidding...

A youngster next to Stam is exactly what we need. Just like Chivu was the youngster next to Bergdölmo. The only problem is that we don't have that youngster in our team at the moment. A Chivu-Stam defence is exactly what we'd need to stabilize the team right now. (With Chivu I of course mean some one like him, 'cause there's no chance he'll return any time soon).
