Re: Europa League Opponents 2009-2010
I'm screwed as well . My vacation is already set..ten Pearl jam shows , including four in Philadelphia in October and OZ and NZ ; Brisbane, Auckland ,and Christchurch ; in November. PJ may play "I Got S*** " , but they don't play like s*** . A sad commentary that I prefer to spend my disposable income , and more of it , on the opposite side of the globe.

I'll be going to the Anderlecht game ... but I'll be avoiding the city centre like the plague.Kowalczyk schreef: I don't think I'll make it to one of the away games. Don't really feel like a trip to Zagreb or Romania, whereas Brussels will be a day of violence, for sure (thousands of Ajax fans, grim atmosphere in town, lots of trouble). Fair chance Ajax will make that one a combi, just like Bruges at the time.

Re: Europa League Opponents 2009-2010
What does the B-list mean? I'm wondering why (for instance) Gregory van der Wiel and Toby Alderweireld are on that list...
Don't worry 'bout a thing...cause every little thing gonna be alright!
Re: Europa League Opponents 2009-2010
The B-list contains youth ('home grown') players (but for instance Eriksen has just joined our youth-ranks and therefore isn't counted as home grown player).
Re: Europa League Opponents 2009-2010
Interesting, players on the B list must have been born after 1/1/1988 so they are in the 21 and under camp. Looks like it is a simple way to get around the team roster size. Clearly a number on the A list came up through the Ajax youth system. Thanks for the link clarifying this.
Appie Nouri will forever be remembered for his grace and humanity on and off the pitch!

Re: Europa League Opponents 2009-2010
Okay people, 40 minutes to go until the draw in Nyon, Switzerland.
The teams will be divided over two pots. The first pot contains the Europa League group winners and the four best numbers three from the Champions League. The second pot contains the runners-up from the Europa League groups and the four 'weakest' numbers three from the Champions League.
Since we made ourselves look a bunch of fools yesterday evening, we will be in the second pot. Two of the teams in the first pot, will be 'blocked' for Ajax: Anderlecht (because they're from the same group as Ajax) and PSV (because they're from the same country as Ajax). Which means we will be paired with one of the following teams: Valencia, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Sporting Lissabon, AS Roma, Galatasaray, Shakhtar Donetsk, Fenerbahce, Benfica, Werder Bremen, Unirea Urziceni, Juventus, VfL Wolfsburg, Olympique Marseille.
For the record... Hadn't we embarrassed ourselves yesterday evening and grabbed at least one point, the options would have been the following: Lille, Hamburger SV, Hertha BSC, Fulham, Panathinaikos, Villarreal, Everton, Club Brugge, FC Kopenhagen, Athletic Bilbao, Liverpool, Rubin Kazan, Standard Luik, Atletico Madrid (FC Twente would have been 'blocked' for Ajax).
We'll see what happens. Let the show begin!

I think everybody expected the history repeating itself after 13 years! Now we must prove that we arent just a shadow of the past and eliminate them!

Re: Europa League Opponents 2009-2010
after last nights woeful performance we get a top team. So thats 2 final games in Europe this season and somehow hope Twente or PSV drop loads of points so we can finish 2nd.

Re: Europa League Opponents 2009-2010
Juve have a relatively slow team, so maybe if we can get some pace at their defence we have a chance, but i cant see us getting anything from this tie to be honest :( :(
Re: Europa League Opponents 2009-2010
juventus, I just hate them.
Van Gaal's Bayern just crushed them 1-4 on their Turin pitch. We do have good chances.

Re: Europa League Opponents 2009-2010
Well, I called this pairing right last evening over on the Anderlecht match forum! Juventus are a team in some sense of trouble and I'm not at all confident that their manager will be around after this year. We get most of the Juve games on cable over here and I've watched them quite a bit. Camorinesi looks to be out for the year and he is the one who really makes them go. Buffon just had knee surgery but should be OK by the first of the year. I hope we give them a solid run! I don't thinking winning the group would have resulted necessarily in a better pairing as some top teams were in Pot 2. We'll have to play 'em one at a time and see how things turn out.afcajax73 schreef:Ajax - Juventuswhoops

Re: Europa League Opponents 2009-2010
What a classical encounter, I love it. I think we really have a shot at winning this time. Juventus has been playing poorly, and Ajax has a pretty solid team (although, everything seems to turn to shit when Suaréz is off.). Just look at our goals made, averaging 3.11 goals per game in the league, that's pretty decent.
