So my very limited knowledge of our youths can be blamed on this site.

Okay everybody... Take a minute or two and read this:

One little curiosity is that we appear to have 4 left backs in the Jong set up.

Supusepa,who played last week , is still with the A1 team, Slijngard , who played last night plus sub Sterk are left backs and an unused sub last night Liesdek is also a left back.I am sure they can play in other positions , as they were coached the Ajax way, but it will be interesting to see if any of these 4 break through to the first team squad.

Well Sterk can play left side of central defense....I believe he can make it to the senior level eventually...I hope so anyway...Btw what happened to the two brothers Ruud Jong and Jaap Jong....I hope they are still in the Promise squads..Anyone know?

They left in summer of 2006 and went to Den Haag.Not sure if they are still there this season

Incidently Ajaxshowtime.com is the best site for info on youth sides.
If you go into it under AFCA heading they list the Jong team and all the youth sides players from A1 down to C3.
They usually do a report on A1 games listing the team and show results of other games. They did a round up pre season of who was new to senior youth squads and showed the players who left and where they went.

So my very limited knowledge of our youths can be blamed on this site.

I know a thing or two about Ajax, but that's normal, because I'm an Amsterdammer who actually gets to go to the ArenA for every game.

But the knowledge of guys like SPL and Ayman about the youth teams... It's absolutely amazing. I can only take a deep bow and salute them. You are nutters (and I mean that 100% positively!) and precisely the reason why I fell in love with Ajax USA at the time, when I first stumbled across the site back in 1998 or so.

I love it: these guys live in the U.K., but they actually follow the youth teams of my club...

Anyway: I will definitely attend more Young Ajax games this season, and I will post my thoughts on individual players here on a regular basis. Promise.

Sure hope so Ko, I have high hopes for this players.

I watched the Ajax youth last year or two years ago, not sure exactly, in Japan and many of the players really caught my attention.

NB Sarpong and Goossens were injured for last night and VdWeil not in the reserves .

Last night's unused subs were Verhoeff( goalie) Liesdek Supusepa Will and Woormgoor all 4 are defenders.

We seem to have a few talented midfielders coming through but the only forward mentioned as a "could make it" is Goossens a left winger.Sousa
Campos is another but at only17 is still in the youth team

I only listed the subs for last night to show that nearly half the reserves are defenders. We could do with a couple of these names breaking through
to join V dWeil in the first team squad.Time will tell !!

The B1 youth team last season also had a Nigel Hasselbaink, who evidently scored alot of goals for them and I noted back in the summer this lad joined PSV !!

Didn't even realise there were two Hasselbaink's. What's this guy's first name then....?

My 'Bijbel van de Eredivisie' (indispensible ) tells me that a Carlos Hasselbaink played for VVV and Utrecht in the early 90's which tels me two thing i) perhaps our guy(s) are related to him as well/instead and ii) perhaps it's quite a common Dutch name and no-one is related to anyone else.......

Does anyone one how badly Goosens and Sarpongs injury is? How long will they both be out for. I hope Goosens injury isnt too bad? SPL? Ko? anyone?

Hi Ayman . Cannot help. Sarpong has a shoulder injury and has not played for the reserves since mid Sept.I have not seen anything to say how bad it is.

Goossens was injured in the reserves game v Sparta on 1st Oct.The official match report in Dutch is on the official site. My translation skill are improving (please you Dutch guys no putting this to the test!!!!!)and it just says he went off injured.

Our reserves lost a cup game to young Fword tonight on dreaded penalties.

Vd Heijden scored for us and F word scored in about 89 min 1-1 after 90mins and after extra time. Penalties went to 5-5 but I believe Martina failed to win the game at that stage but at 7-6 to the Fword it appears Gentenaar missed with the 20th kick of the shoot out. Reason why he was taking our 10th kick was due to Slijngard being sent off for 2nd yellow.
